Doing particle hair as you'd see in a Pixar movie isn't that time consuming if your software has good hair tools, but doing realistic real-time hair is such a tedious nightmare. I've tried it in the past but I don't think I've ever completed a whole scalp.

If I ever had to build a bridge, with unlimited money--I'd have rear projectors for the screens up top--small I-phone displays, nixie tubes, and Spock's viewer a good CRT

I used to be frustrated as a little kid: What! did Spock see. Also at the chuck wagon commercials where the dog chased the chuck wagon under the cupboards and it disappeared. I either wanted the dog to catch it, or know where it was going. Can't remember. Ah, memories. These all would have been about 1972 when I first consciously was watching Star Trek.

This is a sensation from early childhood, but it was akin to when your parents knew something but wouldn't tell you. Super frustrating! Sorry to derail. Must bring it back to topic. Um, like it is so NOT frustrating to look at Donny's images. Though they do make me want to live there again like when I was little.

Imagine what it was like for the tiny driver of the wagon! From his perspective, he has this dino sized canine in hungry pursuit! It was probably like the T-Rex chase scene in the first Jurassic Park movie. He realizes that any moment now, he and his team of horses could be torn literally limb from limb. If only he can reach the Brobdingnagian sized cabinet and the mysterious "doorway" that will lead him back to his wagon train and saner surroundings!

    Not as terrifying as this...
That portal transformed them to become a bag of dog food. They got eaten regardless.

I was told by someone who knew Theiss that it was not a flag at all, but rather fabric scraps. I don’t know whether that’s true, though. For our purposes, it needs to have a design, and scraps or not, we’ve given it one.

I've made some progress on converting my existing TOS Enterprise to it's 2nd Pilot variant. This has been a quick job so far, but I still have a few details to work out (like a few of the pilot-specific primary hull decals, changing the "1"s to "I"s, and adding more dirt and variation to the hull color). Should wrap it up tomorrow night!

    Here's where it stands currently:

Looks film ready. Beautiful as usual, Donny.

And love the new avatar. Monster maroons were my favorite and that one looks well-made. Anovos, I’m assuming?

Donny, how much larger was the Bridge module and the deflector dish to the Enterprise from the regular series run?

I haven't done exact measurements, but Alan Sinclair's schematics depict a side-by-side difference between the deflector dishes: https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/sinclair/sinclair-enterprise-sheet-2.gif

And if you study Charles Casimiro's schematics, you can measure the difference between the series and pilot bridges yourself:

Yes, it's Anovos. I purchased it about 4 years ago. I've been eating clean and working out for the past several months, so it fit better this year than previous years. I made sure to take advantage of this fact and wore it 3 days of the convention.

For anyone interested, here are a few other pics of me at the convention with various friends and in various uniforms.

Here I am with my friends Frank and Chris in our Captain's uniforms. Chris makes his own uniforms from scratch and created this gold command wraparound.

And here is Chris and I again, this time in my services lieutenant and he in his custom-made sciences wraparound:

Me on the last day, tired and incognito with my my Starfleet belt buckle and newly purchased cap with a vintage movie-era Enterprise patch:

I didn't buy a lot of swag this year, but did pick up these gems:

And I bought an expensive tricorder replica to accompany the Wand Company phaser and communicator I bought a couple years ago:

Also, @Rick Sternbach contacted me a few months back about using some of my TMP bridge renders in his slideshow covering his work on the film as part of The Motion Picture 40th Anniversary panel he put on with the Okudas and Douglas Trumbull. It was such a thrill to have him use my work as reference on the big stage. I got to talk to him for a bit before the panel. What an honor! I'll post pictures of that in my Refit Enterprise thread, along with pics from the rest of his slideshow.

Aww, man... For a moment I misread that to mean the Wand Company had finally released a Tricorder! I too have the phaser and communicator and would love to have a similar quality 'corder unit. But then I realized the "device" was from another firm. I bet it probably cost more than the phaser and comm' combined (those averaging $150 each).

BTW, you strike an imposing figure in your TOS command division tunic! Just how tall are you?

Fantastic! It's always a great feeling when someone who was closely involved in the source material recognizes hard work like that. Well deserved!

I actually heard from someone that the The Wand Company will not be making a tricorder prop replica. Which prompted me to stop holding out and buy this one. And yes, it cost a pretty penny but I'd rather not divulge how much I paid for it ;) It doesn't have lights or sound or anything but it does have a removable "data disc" and it's made of high quality materials. It was hand-built from a kit by a guy that sells really high-quality props at the convention every year (I don't know his name nor did he give me a card, unfortunately. I wanted to buy so much more at his table but could only afford this one purchase this year)

I'm 6'3" and have been since I was 14 years old.

Ah, thanks for that update. When I contacted Wand about repair advice on my phaser, I inquired about a tricorder. At that time the rep was unsure. More recently I had learned Wand offered a "kit" to assemble a "Pip Boy" scanner, so I wondered if they might go that route. Alas, I guess not. Looks like I'll want to investigate "other avenues" if I want a "museum quality" replica...or just stick with the Diamond Select/Art Asylum roleplay 'toy" I currently own.

Yeah, I have the DST toy as well. I wish I could port it’s functionality over to the new replica I bought!
