At the end of the episode when the hollow emitters were overloaded and the holograms vanished, why were many of the cast (B’elanna, Chakotay, etc.) still in Sainte Claire? Why didn’t the hollow deck go back to its gridded appearance? Same issue when Sevens's grenade fell and some holograms disappeared. Shouldn't the background area have disappeared as well?
Ran out of budget? Overlooked? Or maybe emitters for the characters are different than the ones for barriers. For that matter Belanna's pregnancy didn't vanish (because Dawson was)
In my last rewatch of VOY I thought the same thing about that part of the episode. Everything should have went back to the grid. But as was pointed out I am sure the budget didn't allow for it.
According to the old technical manuals, some holodeck stuff is replicated rather than projected. Perhaps that was the case here.
