With news that Burnham will be separated from the Discovery when they first arrive (respectively), I hope their reunion will happen sooner rather than later. But I'm sure Georgiou will stir up some intrigue and probably take back her former title of "Captain" for a time. That'll be interesting!

What would be completely out of left field and shocking would be if Prime Lorca showed up, alive and well, in the far future.

Maybe Mirror Lorca just had him locked up the whole time in his spooky lab where the tardigrade was kept.

Maybe they can dig up the old Shatner plot device where the Tantalus field sends the victim to another universe in another time. They were going to bring Mirror Kirk in this way in Enterprise I believe.

Prime Lorca's Mirror captors used a Tantalus field on him that sent him back to his own universe a 1000 years in the future.

The ultimate coincidence for the Disco crew then. "What are the odds of meeting you here?" ;)

I still think it will turn out that mirror Lorca was just absorbed by the giant mushroom ball, not destroyed, and now he’s in or part of the network.

Voyager had worse. B'Elanna had more Klingon interactions in the Delta quadrant than seemingly her entire life back in known space.

The biggest issue with the time jump is Lorca not returning.

But there's always Section 31. There were S31 officers in episode three...

My only hope... that the show develop its own voice on what it wants to be and say about Star Trek.

Last season was a step in the right direction, exploring the "we are Starfleet" theme. I also hope the show has some strong leadership with Michelle Paradise, who I hope has something interesting she wants to say with Trek.

The problem with the first season and parts of the second is that the showrunners didn't seem to have a vision for their Trek, unlike say Roddenberry, Behr or Taylor.

Fuck, even Rick Berman seemed like he had more to say than the Discovery folks.

Yeah, a whole lot of :barf: of bland in between moments of "OK, I'll let you do something vaguely compelling maybe a handful of times a season. But whatever turns peoples cranks. His and other Star Trek producer's "vision" produced 50 or so eps from the get go that are universally agreed to be so poorly regarded that when anyone says, Discos first 28 eps are better than anything Berman's era produced out the gate, supporters of that era tend to deflect by saying "that's a low bar" forgetting who built that low bar..

Praise Roddenberry, Tayor, Pillar et al all you want, but don't pretend that their vision mattered a lot of the time.

More of a prediction: They'll pull the VOY: "Future's End"/ST'09 "What was years for Nero was only seconds for me" schtick and Michael will be alone in the future for months before the Discovery arrives.

Without the Federation around -- or a version of the Federation that's recognizable -- "We are Starfleet" will become even more important than ever.

Season 1 -- Here's the wrong way for Starfleet to be. Making a mistake.
Season 2 -- Here's the right way for Starfleet to be. Learning from the mistake.
Season 3 -- Let's show these people what Starfleet is. Teaching what they've learned.

Before anyone reads what I said about the first season in a way other than what I intended: I always sided with Georgiou in "The Vulcan Hello" and "Battle at the Binary Stars" and thought Burnham was in the wrong. I thought it was refreshing to see someone who I thought was wrong to be on the path to redemption and have her as the lead character. And Lorca's approach to running the ship also looked "wrong" and what I thought made it interesting was seeing this messed up Captain. Then, we see the Mirror Universe where Terrans are the polar opposite of Humans and whose approach is wrong by definition. When Discovery gets back from the Mirror Universe, Cornwell, Sarek, and everyone else feel pushed into a corner and reluctantly make the wrong choice and it's only then that Burnham stands up to Cornwell to make the right choice.

After spending an entire season showing the wrong way of doing things, Burnham finally takes a stand for doing what's right. Cornwell, who I think wanted to be talked out of her course of action, relented, and then we roll into Season 2 where Pike is the Captain's Captain and continues to show them "how it's done".

So this is a very linear progression, despite how chaotic things have been behind the scenes, if you take the time to look at it. Showing how Georgiou ran a very Starfleet ship with the Shenzhou, how Discovery lost its way under Lorca, and then how they found their way back. How they discovered their way back. And now we'll get to see what they learned from Pike.

not sure this has been addressed, so apologies if this is repetition. but wilson cruz just recently posted a photo of himself showing him appearing exactly as he did in the season 2 finale. this leads me to believe the location photography and burnham alone scenes have been shooting up until very recently, so it's quite possible the first few episodes of the season are entirely burnham lost and alone.

Well, the season itself was also saying that. They never said Burnham was in the right.

I could picture someone replying to me with "See? Everything they did was a mistake, so the first season sucks! Season 2 is so much better!", so I felt the need to clarify in case someone tried to hit me with that. Which they would've.

I just noticed IMDB has a few pics for S3E1 here

Not much to see and they only list Sonequa and David for the episode so far.
