Hey, I never noticed that before....

MeTV was just playing "Errand of Mercy" last night, and it stuck out at me how, when the ship is being attacked by the Klingons, a blueshirt wanders by in the foreground between the helm console and viewscreen and sort of casually rubbernecks at the screen while he's going by, like he's just noticing that they're in combat. Dude, Battle Stations--find where you're supposed to be and plant your butt there!
Sciences Division was not well represented on stardate 3198.

What are we running here, a cadet ship?

Sulu looks overwhelmed. No command of the bridge crew. His replacement helmsman is not trained to handle the problems, then he jumps in to take over for him. He shows his nervousness. Yikes. Not a good look. No wonder he takes another 25 years to get his own command. Where was Scotty again?

Anyone who has a boss who is a Star Trek fan should get a pair of those scary contact lenses and a voice amplifier. Then go in his/her office and calmly ask for a raise. Then report back. Did you get the raise, a laugh or a kick to the curb?

I actually spoke with her a few years back on the net and she was very nice! But the main thing she kept on mentioning was the funding for the show I recall!

He was excellent in the fight scenes in all the episodes that required it! Leonard Nimoy obviously came up with the Vulcan neck pinch to get himself out of any long drawn out fight scenes and who can blame him? :vulcan:

Well considering that previously, his acting credits included the 1950ies derial "Zombies of the Stratosphere" (where I'm sure he had to do his own stunts); I'm sure 14+ years later he was "Yeah, I don't want to do the staged fistfights if I don't have too..." ;)

I just realized, this guy reminds me of that wacky early TNG bridge concept that had the couches in front of the viewscreen. "Huh, I don't think I've seen this one before...."

It might have been art for Star Trek Phase II (pre-TMP) that made the bridge a huge, airy lounge with lots of open space and overstuffed comfy cushions. Why did they think that would be an exciting set for an action-adventure series? Can you imagine battle scenes in a carefree, comfort-centric room like that?

No. But then the final TNG bridge wasn't much better. I'm actually still surprised at myself that I enjoyed TNG as much as I did considering how badly they blew the bridge design.

What would you think of a bridge with no chairs, so a captain's dais instead? Everyone has to stand, lean on their console, or sit on the floor if they sit at all.

I would actively hate it. I like when people have chairs, as pretty much everyone did on Star Trek. I loved Voyager's bridge - the color scheme, the design, the ergonomics were all perfect - but I could not stand the fact that the station behind Janeway & Chakotay's chairs, which was used much more once Seven of Nine joined up as that was her default post, had no seat. Even Tuvok and Harry had seats they could use. I didn't even like the large array of people standing up on the otherwise awe-inspiring TWOK bridge. I think the Defiant's bridge on DS9 - another awesome design job - had a seat for everyone.

Mike Minor's P2 bridge concepts had backless stools and only Kirk had the big cushy chair.
