Robert Picardo to return for Picard

Remember when they said Picard wouldn't a reunion show?

Technically, it still isn't. In my mind a reunion show is when the main and recurring casts are mostly made up of returning actors. So far there's only one returning actor confirmed in the main cast. And out of the six confirmed returning guest stars, I'd be shocked if more than one or two of them are recurring. Most of these seem to be one-off guest spots or cameos.

The Shatner/Nimoy films were (excellent) reunion shows. This is shaping up to be something else entirely. More along the lines of a Kirk/Carol & David Marcus/Saavik spin-off with occasional guest spots from the rest of the TOS crew.

The anti fan service dudes won't like it. But the heck with them, I love it. And it's great that they are already working on season 2 stuff.

A lot of the Discovery die hards are so threatened by Picard it's unreal, so many heckles are up.

One of them told me she was concerned that Picard wouldn't be very diverse and would perform better than Discovery. I said don't worry Picard WILL be diverse.

We just need to reassure them it's going to be ok.

They’re slowly killing my interest in the show.

Honestly, as long as the guest spots and cameos are well done and/or serve the story I don't have a problem with this. It's like the Kirk/Spock movie's uses of Khan, Sarek, Amanda and Rand. It could have been very fanservicey, but three of them were integral to the story. And Rand's cameos were innocuous enough.

I don't think Beyer & Chabon are going to shoehorn in established characters left and right. Hell, this is intended to be a 20-30 hour story. If most of these characters are just guest starring in an episode or two, or maybe even just appearing in a single scene, these appearances won't feel like a constant barrage of cameos. The Veronica Mars movie this ain't. It's more like double or triple the extended cut of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptation.

The cameos by established characters isn't really what's concerning them, they are using that as an excuse to poo poo it.

The real issue is they fear it won't be diverse enough. They say Picard us a white man and there's other white looking guys in the cast and that's a serious concern.

If PIcard is less woke AND more successful than Discovery that would be a devastating, devastating hit to their mental well being, so we need to reassure them at this time.

I keep telling them there's diversity in the cast and the new young female character will be really strong and independent and probably save picard so don't worry!

This is quite good news if it happens. If it serves the story, then more power to it.

Guess the Prep Watch Lists need to be updated...

Well luckily you have discovery so you can stick to that.

It'll depend on the writing. But after two seasons of Discovery, count me as leery of it coming off as anything more than nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia.

Well they’ve said a few times that they wouldn’t do it unless it made sense for the story. They wouldn’t just throw characters in for the sake of nostalgia.

Maybe next season will deal with Holographic rights or something.
