The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

When I'm not mobile I'll link to an album of the Jedi and their responses to the Dark Side or Dark Side users.
It amazes me how much people complain about change, and yet, when Luke behaves in the exact same manner as he had in the past, it's a problem.
Sad but true. Except, she is the face of the regular person, not the soldier, not the Jedi, but just the average person fighting for freedom in the galaxy.

Yeah, no. 1) Quoting another person's argument and giving them credit for it, as I've done, is called citing. Nothing to do with plagiarism.
2) You might want to refresh yourself on the difference between "its" and "it's."
Um... what? She's a member of the Resistance forces. The movie introduces her standing watch and following orders.
Her introduction was a terrific bit of filmmaking, too. We meet her sister who sacrifices herself to drop the bombs, holding onto her pendant for courage, then we meet Rose, crying and holding the other half of the pendant. Tells us everything we need to know about their relationship without saying a word.
Also I have it on good authority that Kelly Marie Tran is one of the nicest people in the world and she didn't deserve any of her treatment at the hands of so-called fans.
She's not a soldier, she's not a pilot, she's not a Jedi, she doesn't embody the traditional Star Wars hero. She's a technician. She fixes shit for a living. To your average moviegoer, that's relatable.
The movie actually introduces her grieving for her dead sister. Her exact reason for hanging out near the escape pods with a taser is less important.

That doesn't automatically make her a soldier. And she is certainly not presented as such throughout the series. If following orders is enough to be a "soldier" then I was a soldier all those years in retail.

Completely agree. I was on the edge of my seat with Paige (her sister) and the bombing sequence). And then it all went downhill. And I was so sad and then Rose shows up and the emotions of her loss are palpable on screen. It is an incredibly humanizing face of Poe's actions.
Nicely put. And, no, Tran deserved none of that garbage.
When I had to cite things in grad school we could not quote them. We had to put their arguments into our own words, and avoid quotes as much as possible, thus demonstrating that we had actual read (or listened to) and understood the material.
Just sharing a video clip does none of that.

My daughter works for Wal-Mart as an Assistant Store Manager now. I worked for them many, many moons ago and only made it to Department Manager of Pets, before moving on to banking.

If you are unaware that many, many soldiers are technicians who fix shit for a living, you might just have an even worse grasp of military basics than Rian Johnson, who had the First Order aim their big-ass canon at a stationary, planet-side base rather than a fleeing vessel.
She's on a warship, wearing a uniform, and obeying orders (until she decides to lark off, that is). She may be a soldier or a sailor or a spaceman depending on the semantics of the Resistance fleet, but she's a combatant, period.
Did your job directly contribute to combat effectiveness? Was your place of retail employment part of a war-fighting vessel or military base?
Says the guy who doesn't seem to understand Rose was a soldier/combatant. Christ, this isn't hard. Maybe read a book sometime! Or hell, watch any movie about combat operations or navies!
