Why Doctor Who is a MESS

If a pregnant Timelady regenerates into a Timelord... What happens to the baby?
Well the rules mentioned in Zagreus say that when a regeneration occurs, every cell in the body changes except the brain which only slightly changes, this keep the personality of said time lord. It also mentions that it’s a artificial ability they have and so I expect it’s removed if they were to be pregnant.

Even if the mother is in zero danger, if Timeladies have contractions, that's enough pain to trigger a dozen regenerations.

The Chancellery Guard said at some point, somewhere, that they had Regeneration Suppressing weapons, so suppressing regeneration must be easy.

They had a double bladed knife to hit both hearts at once to prevent regeneration in the books I think....or..no...I think patience deliberately twisted so she would be stabbed through both hearts and not regenerate.

What science has been done on fictional aliens?
It's very Earth based assumption that only a TimeLady can be pregnant.

It’s a very 21st century earth based argument that would suggest the wouldn’t.
How would you define male and female of an alien species?

I mean I was fine with the looms idea that suited everyone, but *shrug*

It's not like it's an unheard of idea ... Trip Tucker in "Enterprise" ... Dr. Alex Hesse (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in "Junior" ... 20 other movies you can google and probably would not want to watch.

Those are all played for laughs that comes from the ‘unnatural’ nature of that situation. I think I have seen junior. I saw the ep of enterprise, but, well, I don’t like enterprise in general.

I mean we can talk about seahorses if you like, but generally speaking....

I would let them define it.

Then you might be a wonderful politician, or possibly psychologist, at a stretch anthropologist or possibly sociologist, but you would be a poor biologist or any of the hard sciences. A bad scientist.

Especially considered Time Lords are now shown to change sex at will. Logic suggests pregnant 13 nee 15 is possible, but 7 stretching that question mark jumper over a baby bump just isn’t.

Of course, it was much more fun when we had the Pythias curse and looms.

But is this about science, about the fiction of who, or about the politics?

No, I don't think so.

But is this about science, about the fiction of who, or about the politics?

All three. But, more specifically, fans lack of imagination.

All three. But, more specifically, fans lack of imagination.

Be sure to let me know when I can cheer on your wonderful advances in discovering a naturally occurring pregnancy in a person without the necessary biological components.

And us fans have plenty of imagination, and I am willing to bet I have probably read up more on Time Lord biology, in the fictional universe we are discussing, than your good self.

Sure, champ right after the discovery of alien life that perhaps doesn't share the same binary as we do.

"But, the Doctor CAN'T be a woman!"
"Only TimeLady's can have time babies!"
"How dare you suggest that Timelord biology might not follow the same binaries as humans!"
"I've read a lot of books about a made up universe, I know the FACTS!1!"
"Those aren't boobs on a Daleks, those are BUMPS!"

Yep. You got me there. Plenty of imagination.

That binary seems to exist pretty much everywhere in life...and just to qualify here, we are talking specifically about pregnancy, particularly in humanoid/primates. Even if we weren’t, there’s still a slew of y’know science. I am not remotely fussed about gender self-identification etc.
The alien life can, as you say, do what it likes...or more accurately, what it evolved to do.
Your understanding of biology in a scientific context is poor. A male blackbird is black, a female is brown. These outer signifiers are helpful when they are working out how to breed. Scientifically speaking, I am not going to ask them how they identify, and were I making some kind of Noah’s ark to preserve life from earth, I better make sure I know what is required for breeding pairs.
Humans are a bit more complex is almost every other way, but the basics of what you need to make a baby..well..much as it may pain a lot of fine people, that’s kind of how it is.

As to your idea about fans...well, if you were attempting to parody me, or lump me in with some group your febrile mind has conjured, it’s a poor job.
You also seem to know very little about the fiction.

Not least as I have stated my preference for the narrative devices that neatly sidestep the whole argument, but odds are you will make that a discussion about canon. Which is a shame, because Doctor Who was doing a much better job of talking about gender and alien biology, when it was mostly fans and books.

Here.

Your understanding of biology in a scientific context is poor.

Nope.

A male blackbird is black, a female is brown.

Why are you bringing up earth birds in a discussion of alien biology?

Humans are a bit more complex is almost every other way, but the basics of what you need to make a baby..well..much as it may pain a lot of fine people, that’s kind of how it is.

Again, why are bringing earth biology into a discussion of alien biology?
On Earth, life is based on carbon. Might not be so on another planet. By your thinking, silicon based life isn't life because it's not based on carbon.

As to your idea about fans...well, if you were attempting to parody me, or lump me in with some group your febrile mind has conjured, it’s a poor job.
You also seem to know very little about the fiction.

That's an interesting statement, what makes you say that?

lol. Doctor Who and canon. Snarf.
