Ran across an interesting suggestion on another site. They wondered if Kara's change of look (costume and hair) might be tied to her assimilation of Red Daughter, leading to her adoption of some aspects of that character. Narratively, that would actually be pretty cool, especially if it changed her in other ways beyond the visual. I still dislike the new look ("dislike" read :barf:), but it would be more palatable if it had an actual story purpose.

I like the new costume, but it could do with some more colour.

Doesn’t even look like her in the pic. I do like that in the comments with people saying that it’s about time she had more cover like Superman. They should now put Clark in shorts. :)

I get why they've been getting rid of the "briefs" on the Superman/Supergirl suits, what with the jokes and all, but I feel like having the suit all be one color and material makes the whole thing look more like underwear. I'd like it if they'd find some other way to break up the suits. I mean, the original costumes were inspired by circus strong-men and the like, so why not look to modern-day athletic wear that's full of superfluous darts and patches and patterns to avert this exact problem?

I think it would look a little better if the belt was red

Cape is a lot more Superman-like (the one on her show) than before at the shoulders.

Patterns or not, a lot of modern day "athletic" wear looks pretty much like underwear to moi... :p

My theory is she storms into the fortress of solitude to get Superman's suit now that he has left earth and tells that robot thing to adjust it for her. Robot says it is basically perfect and she says "No. It will be perfect when it fits a woman!" cue pop music.:) Jason

I finally realized why Supergirl could beat Superman in the battle at the reflecting pool. ;)

His longer cape, when wet, tired him out much more quickly than her midlength cape.

I can live with the suit, but the bangs???

Do you think the new suit may be part of a "back from the future" Winn story? :vulcan:

I'm generally not a big fan of hairstyles with bangs. But I'm more curious about just how Kara cuts her hair. I guess it's like how Superman shaves, reflecting heat vision off a mirror (although in Byrne's version it was a polished piece of metal from Kal-El's ship, since an ordinary mirror would vaporize in an instant).

Maybe she just changed her look a bit so that Lena wouldn't recognize her again... :D

Although if both Kara and Supergirl get bangs at the same time, wouldn't that have the opposite effect?

I don't know why the producers didn't just let her wear a wig as Kara Danvers. When Red Daughter wore a wig, she was unrecognizable. It was a fantastic disguise.

You need brighter colors to beak up that dull wash of blue. Red (as used in this costume) would sort of blend into the rest, only adding to the poor appearance.

If Kara moves from a fun skirt to pragmatic trousers... Girl no more.

    Superwoman?

I've wondered why she does not take on that name. In the real world, Supergirl is a brand well over a half century old, so they might not be so willing to get rid of it, but there is precedent: in the comics, Dick Grayson was as tied to the name and identity of Robin as Wayne was to Batman, but in 1984, he was successfully transformed into Nightwing, and did not look back. Supergirl could go the same way, and as long as "Super" is in the name, it would not rock the boat with viewers.

Superwoman is at least a couple different characters comics, and none of them are Kara Zor-El.
It actually does look quite a bit better there.

Although considering how gender is more than it used to be...

    Superperson?
