I disagree.
Kara didn't lie because Lena is a Luthor, she kept her truth to herself because she was protecting her sister, her foster mother, her nonpowered friends and the truth re: the identity of her cousin and his weaknesses namely his foster mother and his significant other.
Why is it okay for Lena to lie to Alex about Sam, "It wasn't my truth to tell" but its not okay for Kara to keep the truth from Lena to protect everyone else?
Some truths are not to be shared at the start of relationship and that's the trap that Kara fell into with Lena. Lena supposedly refuses to trust anyone who's ever lied to her because any lie is a betrayal. But Lena doesn't count all the lies she tells to everyone else as a betrayal.
She knew the harunel was dangerous when she gave it back to Kara's mom to bring to Argo but she still kept making it and testing it. She experimented on humans to make them "super" without passing it by even one ethics committee in the process and she wonders why James was upset that she was not only doing it but selling the results to the government. A government, by the way, we now know was being lead by a lackey of Lex Luthor himself!
Time and time again she told Kara how important truth was to her, but time and time again she too kept the truth from Kara about her real plans behind inviting Supergirl to protect her gala in season 2, her initial attempts to Kill Morgan Edge in season 3, her experiments with kryptonite and harunel in season 3 and 4, her contacts with the brother who tried to KILL her multiple times in season 4, her work with the government to supply them with enhanced soldiers. SUPERGIRL was the one who had trouble with Lena, not Kara so she can't use that as an excuse for keeping the truth from her "best friend".
Lex Luthor played Lena the same way a certain teen aged villain played Marty Mcfly when he told him he was a CHICKEN. He told Lena "everyone knew"
but her and they were all LAUGHING at her! MOCKING her, HUMILIATING her, that it was beyond belief that she could live in such denial as to believe white bread Kara Danvers was merely a mild mannered reporter.
He may be
dying but
HE wasn't a
FOOL like her!
If Lena is a fool, it was to listen to Lex.
The first scene in the video-montage of hidden Supergirl antics showed SG saving Lena from Mercy Graves henchmen.
In fact the first time Lena met Supergirl was when SG saved her from the killer drones her brother's henchman directed towards her helicopter 3 years ago.
Supergirl saved Kena when her mother's henchmen knocked her off the balcony, she saved Lena from the crashing plane Morgan Edge arranged, she saved her from an exploding Metallo her mother created, she saved her from the alien spaceship/shotgun wedding Monel's mom planned.
As for will Lena be a villain or not, that possible turn to the darkness isn't on Kara's shoulders. Lena picked up the gun on her own and killed her brother in cold blood.
The PTSD from that alone could turn someone into their own monster, especially now that she feels she can't reach out to her friends. No one there to tell her to climb when she thinks its hopeless!
Since the show runners have spent the last 3 years telling us Lena isn't the monster we all suspected she would be, based on her last name, maybe they will do the same next season and teach Lena and Kara to forgive and build a new more open relationship. One built on the one thing neither has been able to fully give the other, trust.
Of course, with a team like Supergirl, Alex, Lena, James, J'onn, Brainy, and Nia working together... who could stop them?
