I've started updating my older TWOK-era project (which was featured in this thread years ago), but I decided to post progress in an entirely new thread so as to keep it separate from my TOS project.

I'll also ping a moderator to rename this thread to simply "Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors", so as to avoid confusion.

Wow. I just got caught up on this and the work is amazing. I don't have much to add because I have never gotten into the details of the sets, but when it comes to the original studio filming model, I have a few comments.

First, this is courtesy of Gary Kerr who helped a little on the 92 restoration (taking measurements for plans that made Greg Jein's model for DS9 so accurate) and was the draftsman for the most recent restoration.

That has the colors and a lot of the surface details. I noticed on the CG model that some of the engine parts were not the right color - being the hull color instead of a lighter gray or silver.

Also, an important detail to note about the grid lines. There is one missing. Part of the construction of the nacelles is a join between the turned wooden forward section (that joins the pylon) and the after section of rolled sheet metal. AT this join there is a line. That line has never been hidden so for the model to be accurate, it should be represented either as a panel line or a grid line.

Here it is covered by the overhanded weathering from the 92 restoration. It is the first line aft of the pylon.

You can clearly see it in this 1972 photo.

They filled it in during the last restoration, but it has quickly opened up again so it is likely has been a constant feature of the model since it was built, but like the drawn grid lines, is largely invisible in the effects shots and most pictures.

Thanks for pointing out that line on the nacelles, I'd never noticed that!

However, I'm a little confused by your comment about the coloring of the nacelles. All my references show that the nacelles were the same greenish-grey as the rest of the hull, and I've indeed matched the nacelle details to their proper colors as well. Can you be more specific?

I'm wondering then if Donny's model needs that visible then? If the seam wasn't visible during the series run, HD reference video and most pictures from that time period should that panel line need to be added in?

Not the nacelles themselves. The pipes and the groove on the inside and the rear cowel are all different colors. The grille is metallic with some weathering to dull it a bit and the pipes are a lighter gray and the inside of the groove and the rear cowel are a darker gray. Check out the drawings in the link I posted. Those are also the most accurate drawings on the web, both in terms of color and details.

While i take a break from my Refit Enterprise project, the followers of this thread will be pleased to hear that work is well underway on converting my second/third season TOS bridge into the following variants:
1) "The Cage" variant
2) "Where No Man Has Gone Before" variant
3) Early Season One variant
4) Mirror Universe variant

I'll be posting screenshots in this thread once I complete these bridge variants, along with notes on all the various differences between them. Stay tuned!

Last night and tonight I worked on remodeling, refining, and retexturing my Burke chairs, to include the unmodified pilot versions as well.


I gotta admit it feels great to be back in my TOS maps for a change. I'd almost forgotten the sheer amount of assets I'd created for this project....glassware, food, furniture, wall decor, books, those fake painted plants...etc etc etc. There's a ton of stuff in my asset library!

Beautiful! IIRC, there was a tall-back variant where the upholstery was the same material that you used there for the trapezoidal-shaped wall hangings. I think it was used as the courtroom chair, but definitely also a Burke, and had the folding armrest.

Yes, you're correct! IIRC it also showed up in Kirk's quarters in some of the later episodes. Sorry I didn't include it here.

After going over references some more, I could probably make further refinements to the leather back of the chair to get it closer to screen-accurate. I think mine's a little too wide and flat. I'll do that tonight and throw in the version @137th Gebirg is talking about as well.

Worked on the Burke chairs yet another night in an effort to get them even more accurate. I think I'm finally satisfied.

Remodeled the leather backing to be closer in shape and size to the reference, and also added some bulk to the seat pads.


And went ahead and made the variants with the orange/gold checker upholstery (seen in a few of the crew quarters sets here and there, and some of the Enterprise's courtroom scenes)

I’d like to! Just depends on where my mood takes me after finishing these bridges: either more TOS stuff or back to the Refit, or perhaps to finish my TUC bridge. Since that chair isn’t necessary for the bridges, I probably won’t get around to modeling it unless I decide to model The Cage briefing room or Pike’s Quarters. I’m kind of just sticking to following my motivation lately and you may see me making more frequent jumps from project to project. So, we’ll see!

Remodeled the leather backing to be closer in shape and size to the reference, and also added some bulk to the seat pads.

I've just started to dig into this thread but the work you've done Donny is fantastic. Seeing this quality of work is a definite inspiration to push one's skills just that little extra.
