OK, so there are.
Miles did replace Ultimate Peter Parker when he died. But if he had replaced the mainstream Spidey book and there was no more Peter Parker, no you think he would have been accepted the way he did and it took a while for people to warm up to him.
I think it would have been different, sure. Only based on the larger backlash of Riri, Amadeus, and others who totally replaced their namesakes who were nowhere to be found month to month. With Miles, Spider-Man fans could have their cake and eat it too monthly. Fans of Tony, Bruce, etc were out of luck.
I mean, Peter Parker fans couldn't even accept a clone of him as a replacement. And he was a clone!
Ben Parker replaced Peter Parker.
Was that really such a travesty?
Time travelling Cosmic Ghost Rider thought so, and told the Parker-Boys to stop annoying the audience.

When they killed Ultimate Peter Parker and replaced him with Miles, the Media didn’t clarify this aspect. So a lot of people thought they killed the main Spidey and replaced him with a minority. And yeah, it went exactly as expected with the usual whining.
Warning to nerds - In the Star Trek universe, you would be freaking out every day, every time there was a First Contact between human and nonhuman..

Well lets take Ghost in the shell movie from a few years ago...
A bunch of people were white washed or otherwise changed nationalities in the movie, most notably Scarlett Johanson playing Motoko Kusinagi.. As a person who has watched every movie and tv show of Ghost in the Shell, I was apoplectic at the casting choices.. This is a movie that was set in japan, with a japanese security service as the main crew.. and the movie had a good part of that crew as other than japanese.. It was a Horrible casting choice.. and the only reasoning was.. well there all robots so they can be anything they want.. Meh..
And the movie came and went ( I did go see it.. Horrible movie.. writing was ..ugh..) ..
Now there thinking of makeing an Akira movie, and doing the hollywood thing.. instead of Neo Tokyo, its Neo New York? Huh??
So.. no.. I don't trust Hollywood in making any sane choice..

Well, no, because it wasn't a remake; it was a western reinterpretation of the basic plot. Also, probably, not many people in the target US audience knew about the original.
I don't think anybody complained about Kurosawa reinterpreting King Lear as Ran, either.
...And then reinterpreted into a western by an Italian film company.
Ursula in Once Upon a Time is played by Merrin Dungey.

I presume you also hate the 1995 anime as it’s set in Hong Kong, and Motoko identifiably has the same body as a generic westernised model...hence the blonde puppet master inhabited body (the one that escapes and gets hit by a truck and features at the end etc.) and whilst SAC is a masterpiece, it presents an interesting melange of ideas from the original manga.
I am not sure who else was whitewashed in the movie, the only two outright Japanese characters in the original (Togusa and Aramaki) are both still Japanese in the movie....as to the origins of Motoko...well, which version do you like? There’s at least three origins for her.
The problem is when bumping into this argument is that everyone who thinks they know a work being adapted, perhaps doesn’t. As to authorial intent...well, Shirley constructed a very interesting future, and the film made an interesting riff on that by having it be so multicultural for a reason. I also refer you to his rather interesting ‘cafe au lait’ statement in the mouth of one of his other characters, Deunan Knute...Who may or may not be a descendant of the Major according to his own notes (mostly not.)
The movie addressed the issue (Though looping in a different name for the baddies makes things confused) in amongst its pot pourri of bits from the original and other adaptations and made it outright a part of the storytelling. The Batou stuff in the film was really nicely done, and it’s thematic points were all about appearance, identity in self, identity in the eyes of others....and all só a Scarlett Johansen starring action film might heaven forbid make some money.
But it’s easier to knee jerk even if it means getting things utterly wrong for the work being adapted. Surface reading of the other adaptations for example. I mean...where is Batou from? Is he Japanese? Seito and Ishikawa are also interesting characters for that...and even Bulma. Ghost In The Shell takes place in a world of very very different nations, geography, and particularly biology to our own. That’s sort of the point.
And it is at least the third or fourth iteration on it.
Much as I wanted to dislike it (SJ is not popular in our house, Hollywood getting sits fingers in our geek pies is also usually very unwelcome) it is actually very good. But that would require a little more knowledge or at least a little more of an open mind when approaching it.

I find it amusing that I was educated in primary school with the stories of Anansi and The Monkey King (and admittedly, later, Robin Hood and The Hobbit...though those were under the counter, given to me personally by the teacher jobs, rather than to the whole class as the other two were) and taught about African story-telling tradition (allegedly) in secondary school (as well as a lesson on how Anansi became the Brer Rabbit stories) and yet here we all are fighting over lines in the sand that all come down to the ownership of (fictional) people.
I await the Jane Eyre adaptation with a genderflipped story with great interest. It has no chance of happening...but maybe Ben Whishaw could star. Or maybe some Austen adaptations in a similar vein...
Oh. And before he gets much older, I support Adrian Lester for Bond.
He is 50 some might last one or two movies. I prefer someone like Chadwick Boseman
