One thing I forgot to mention about going to the Minor League game is they had the clock, they had 20 seconds between pitches. It really did speed up the game, there was no stepping out, no "fixing" of the batting gloves, no pitcher walking around the mound. The pitcher got the ball back, and was in the ready position almost right away. There was also a strict 2 minutes between innings, so they had a minute and thirty seconds to warm up and then they through the ball down to second and the batter was in the batter box. I have to tell you, I really liked it.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Carlton Fisk had been subjected to a 20 second clock? About a minute of gyrations in the batter's box between pitches and he called a game at a rate where you could time the interval between pitches with an hourglass.

Forgetting the lower TV ad revenue (likely made up for by higher ad fees), wouldn't a stadium make less on food and beer and whatnot if they make the games considerably shorter? Or would they just charge even more for beer?

I think you could compromise on the between innings clock, say to three minutes and give the TV stations the ability to get their ad money.

Manfred says that Cleveland getting the ASG had nothing to do with the Indians dropping Chief Wahoo.

Manfred is shit but he's not necessarily lying in this case. The All-Star Game rotates around parks that are new and / or have been recently renovated. Dodger Stadium is relatively recently renovated, and they're hosting the 2020 game, 2021 is being held in Atlanta (and it's not like they've dropped the Tomahawk Chop), and Chicago is bidding heavily to have the 2022 game held at Wrigley.

^I’d like to see MLB go back to Camden Yards. 2023 would mark thirty years since the first All Star Game there.

I'm sure they are coming up, Texas will get one for their new place too, maybe Toronto then? if they install real grass or something, Arizona is trying to rob the taxpayers for a new place, they will get the game as a congratulations, Oakland if this new stadium idea gets built, of course Montreal when the Rays make their move.

I think that makes the game so, so, so much better.

The thing is, there's no need for an actual pitch clock. We aren't in the days of Steve Trachsel taking ten minutes to come set and deliver.

There already is a literal rule in MLB's Official Rules that says the batter must keep one foot in the box at all times. If the umpires would just enforce that, then you wouldn't have almost every batter stepping out and adjusting their helmet and their gloves, tugging on their jersey, tapping dirt off their cleats and scratching their nuts after every pitch. Manfred wants shorter games? Boom, enforce that rule and you probably take 20 minutes off every game.

I support any step that leads to shorter, tighter, and easier to watch games.

So....like the rest of the world. We have many laws that don't get enforced, but people want more laws.

Marisnick gets a massive 2 game suspension for the Lucroy "collision". Story

Also, in the Atlantic league, in addition to the testing of robotic umpires, they are experimenting with "stealing first". Story
    Also being tested:
    • One foul bunt is allowed with two strikes before it becomes a strikeout.

    • Pitchers are required to step off the rubber to try a pickoff.

    • A relaxation on check swings to be more batter-friendly.

This just seems like an invitation for a massive increase in umpires calling balks.

40 years ago today....man how time flies. Might be the only full game ever forfeited, definitely the only one since 1970 that wasn't played at all.
