Wow... there's a stinker. Gomez and Capaldi were the two saving graces of the Capaldi era, though I do agree with you about Catherine Tate.:barf:

People who use these terms usually aren't worth discussing anything with, so keep it up and you'll soon have no issues!

My main issues: 10 episodes instead of 13/12, a yearly interval between seasons, and vanilla storytelling. At least if it had been as breathtaking as series 1, 4 or 5, I'd be able to forgive it. As is, fuck this. I want to see the Doctor every year.

His opinion's usually worth listening to.

As for Doctor Who, it's a show which has been running for decades about an eccentric time travelling alien with multiple personalities, many of whom haven't met.

I'm not sure it could ever really not be a mess.

His opinion seems to boil down to "tow the verbal line or we will exclude you." I crap on that.

Well, it's a show that constantly reinvents itself, to be sure, sort of like those long running soap operas such as Coronation Street or, over here, Days of Our Lives. C'mon, there's... what?... three different explanations given in DW for the destruction of Atlantis?

My original opinion still stands: this past season is a low point actor-wise, production-wise, and script-wise. I've seen it way better, but not much worse. ;)

"SJW" and "virtue signaling" are just words made up by assholes trying to shame people who call them out for being assholes.

If I'm honest, then, yes, the past season certainly had room for improvement with its storylines. But now the casting, the casting's top notch. Whitaker makes an excellent Doctor, while Walsh, Cole, and Gill make great companions. Indeed, even in the more lackluster episodes of the past season, this particular TARDIS team invigorated the episodes and added something enjoyable to what would otherwise be a generic and unmemorable episode.

    Uhuh.

Virtue signalling = er, visibly making an effort to be decent
    SJW = well, being decent

A bit like Doctor Who in fact.

I never really will understand why people want to watch Youtube videos from some random person bitching about a TV series.

I enjoyed the last season, it wasn't perfect but given I'd stopped watching a season or two before it was nice to enjoy Doctor Who again.

I hope Chibnall takes account of the useful and constructive criticism and further improves the show. The pathetic whining about a female Doctor and the show being too SJW or whatever can be happily ignored.

Maybe because some people who make videos actually have valid points?

Doctor Who reached the point where Star Trek was for me years ago, when Enterprise was on. I completely lost interest, there are dozens of episodes I haven't seen - and I don't even care.

That's a sign that the show has problems with it, because it takes a lot for me to give up on a show I'd had DECADES invested in.

I've also had decades of watching and I came back this series after quitting during Capaldi so by your logic that means it's a sign the show has no problems at all.

Capaldi was indeed a low point for me, despite my high hopes.

The agonizing thing for me was that Capaldi was so good as the Doctor, yet the scripts were often laughable or cringeworthy.

I'll agree with that, Capaldi had the talent and he had the charisma, but there's only so far that will take you.

Even Freddie Mercury fell apart during his solo run with crap material.

Okay but do they need to take so long making those points? I totally lost interest in the latest season of Who, it all seemed a bit dull. Yet I can't imagine wasting over an hour of my life watching some Angry Youtube Guy tear it apart.

To me, it all went downhill after the Ponds left. The 50th anniversary was saved by having both Smith and Tenant, and Smith single-handedly saved Time of the Doctor.

Think of Doctor Who as a roller coaster ride. There are many ups and downs, and even if it is down for you now, it might be up for you later. And, none of us feel the ups at the same time. It's like we are on the same ride, but because we each sit in different cars, the ups for one person are the downs for another person.

The ride has been running for decades, with a few stops for repairs, but I hope it never closes down permanently.
