maybe ST4 would have been like Treks version of Endgame (the same summer as Endgame!)

I think "Kelvin timeline" is really clumsy, and doesn't really work or fit. It's also probably the best and only possibility in-universe.

But I sure don't use it when talking about it (it's "alternate universe" formally, "reboot" when being objective, or JJverse or something equally wrong when being informal). I mean - I guess Bob Orci was probably the one most responsible in defining it as an alternate timeline, being the only major creative force who was aware of "canon" in the beginning.

Overall though, I think the extremely muddy definition of what this Kelvin timeline actually is (it's not a full reboot - but by god it doesn't work as a regular "alternative history" either), is part of why these movies don't have a clear place in the Trek universe anymore.

I don’t see a problem: it’s obviously like DSC in that elements older than 2233.04 are shared but imagined in JJ style, a bit differently than we’d expect from ENT or TOS. (On the other hand, the Prime Timeline from their POV is literally identical, as shown on the TFF cast photo from STB.)

The question is was there a Michael Burnham in the Kelvin Universe? Were there a Red Angel, and an out of control Control in the Kelvin timeline? How was the mirror universe impacted when Nero attacked the Kelvin? When he destroyed Vulcan?

The USS Kelvin - the ship design, the crew (Faran Tahir as Captain! Chris Hemsworth as Kirks' dad! A real alien alien!) was by far the absolute best thing from these rebooted moves...

...hell, what would I give for a movie trilogy that follows the USS Kelvin??:adore::(

I dunno, I think "Kelvin" has a nicer ring to it than "Hobus."

It's an alternate timeline. It's pretty simple.

    Probably.
As we've seen, events don't always line up, even if there are lots of parallels. For example, I'm pretty sure that Nero's little trip never happened in the mirror universe (and if so, it probably just created a splinter timeline that didn't affect the main one, like the Kelvin timeline did somehow).

I'd call it Earth 2, or the Ultimate Star Trek Universe.

In the seminal episode "Parallels" we see numerous quantum realities, many of which have similar events, but different outcomes (as evidenced by Worf). One did not impact the other, so I don't know why events in the Mirror Universe would impact the Kelvin or the Prime universe.

Was Michael Burnham born before Nero's incursion? If so, then yes.

The real question is, is the universe of DSC where Michael Burnham comes from the Prime universe, or yet another one?

She was born in 2226 according to Memory Alpha.
That is the question, isn't it?

Oh, I know it's 'prime' as in 'not the Kelvin timeline.' But is it 'prime' as in 'Prime?' Surely not.*

*Oh, wait, somebody already did that joke.

Well, crossovers between the prime and mirror universe had some huge impacts on the other, including changing the course of history, so in a timeline branching off the main one, where those visits never happened, would't that also create more mirror universe timelines?
