Aside from Locutus and the Queen, I don't think there has been a fully matured Borg without an ocular implant. Usually the left eye has the implant.

Nice. You quote me, prove my point, tell me I'm wrong, then quote me out of context to make fun of me. Good post.

The Borg began as a purely organic species. At some point, they began experimenting with technological enhancement, and somehow got so sidetracked with it that they lost their racial identity without it. As such, there is no assimilation of the children born to that species. They are born Borg, and the introduction of the implants is a normal process to them, like hitting puberty. They never know any other way, and are among those that never consider what it might be like to not be Borg. No child of the Borg ever sought to be a part of Unimatrix Zero, as it is as foreign a concept to them as using a magic wand.

Perhaps the Borg recognise that other species can be repulsed by al those implants, especially in the face, and spare some drones, intended to be / become a spokesperson to other species, a bit when it comes to those ocular implants?

Extending the line of thought of pills that grow organs.

How do we know, like 20% of people in the 24th century aren't trans, but the procedure is so advanced there's no difference? Like, a trans woman gets periods and can get pregnant and everything, and the reason we don't hear about it is that it's just so normal nobody talks about it?

Apart from the bigger point you made that if it's normal then nobody talks about it as some form of exotic or unusual thing, like how we don't talk every day about needing ~500 gallons of oxygen (since we breathe in maybe 3000 gal of air and oxygen comprises something like 20% of that) per day on average (not including variables such as exercising, being in a coma, or dead, et cetera)... though it'd be more interesting if everyone had but then Sheldonizing would become a more popular pastime than baseball and I just don't see that happening.

As for breeding with the organs and swapping them around and everything else, it all would be irrelevant. DNA would be extracted as needed for home-grown drones if there's not a convenience store nearby in which to get some more drones from. No need to do things the old fashioned way, which was chaotic, inconsistent, prone to error (both after and before actual fertilization), and I suspect the chemicals used to eliminate emotions from the brain would take care of the sex drive either way. Ditto to counteract hormones for any number of regular biological processes as well. Sci-fi often explains a possibility, just not the how or why. Nerds make the how a reality. Not entirely sure what or where why gets to explain but that goes well beyond the point of the thread (biological processes related to reproductive systems no longer being needed in a "more perfect", cybernetic hodgepodge. In Quadrasonic, 4 independent channel sound and with Corinthian leather seats too. :D

Water is recycled from urine or synthesized. STFC onward had nanoprobes that clearly answer a lot more than instantly borgifying someone, though there's no doubt nanoprobes or nanites within Borg technology would take care of formerly biological traits.

My take on that is that the Borg did the "Which is clearer, A or B?" test and found most people have lazy eye in the left eye.

You have nanites. Why would you need them, and attached to the collective mind, wouldn't using them be weird?

They are re-purposed for spare nanite storage.

Can Seven still assimilate people? I always thought of her nanoprobes as like the pink goo in Ghostbusters. They were converted into happy nanoprobes

Borg porn... I can only imagine.

("Careless Whisper" playing in background while inside an assimilation chamber on a Borg ship.)

Drone seductively talking: "We are the Borg. You have entered our ASSimiliation chamber, where we seek to attain perfection... in pleasure. Our designation is 69, and you are about to be... (sexy sigh) nanoprobed!"

I figured if the Borg were augmenting around that area, and they needed to stick in a new gizmo, they'd probably cut them off and discard them. Otherwise, they're probably still under there somewhere but rendered shrivelled and impotent. Nothing in the body generating testosterone or oestrogen.

I read in one of the books, Greater than the Sum, that the Borg have genitalia but it is atrophied from non use and lack of hormones.

Hugh was in a relationship with another former Borg drone and in drug therapy to grow back his genitalia and have a full sexual relationship.

Wow, I didn't make a crude joke. Good for me!

I generally agree with the concept that Riker's musings serve the narrative purpose of exposition for the viewing audience, and should basically be taken at face value. It's easier to move forward with the narrative from that point of view, rather than getting hung up on the minutiae of whether his speculations were accurate or not.

    First, welcome to the board.

Second, please take some time to review the rules for posting here, pinned at the top of this forum, particularly the one about resurrecting old threads.

This one has been dead for nearly 4 years. Let’s let it rest in peace shall we?

    Thanks!
