They might not have their original plumbing equipment.

In the 23rd century they had pills that could grow new kidneys. The 24th could have pills that can grow new pee-pees and hoo-has.

No doubt there are also possibilities for customization in both qualitative and quantitative terms. Um... :barf2:

I'm sure, assimilated people do NOT lose their sexual organs, at least not immediately.
Remember, when Tuvok, B'Elanna & Janeway got assimilated. They hada technology to save their minds from assimilation, but their bodies completely became borg. Would they have done it for THIS price? I dont's think so.
But most importantly: B'Elanna became pregnant AFTER her time a a borg.
Maybe the doctor recreated everything destroyed by the borg. Or (what I believe) everything stayed as it was before, the borg just didn't use these parts anymore.
So, everything should be okay with Picard.
But Seven was a drone for about 20 years. Why should the borg waste any energy for useless parts of her body? So these parts may have been under-supplied for many years, maybe even suppressing her menstruation. Just like her body's problems with normal food, these parts of her body may not work anymore. Or at least need a lot of medical treatment.

But DS9 (Profit and Lace) showed that a sex change was a relatively simple and reversible process. If the nanoprobes begin suppressing and under supplying those organs, even for the short time while they were Borg, damage would have begun. Damage the Doctor could reverse.

I also assumed that those babies were victims of assimilation in first stage maturation chambers.

The baby's could also have been removed from the mother during her assimilation and placed in the chamber, making the process of assimilation even more horrific. If the mother could be rescued, they might not be able to rescue the child.

My guess is that they still have the Twiggs and Berries and other .. parts.. but the nanoprobes act as a "Sterilize" or some type of birth control, Women don't have there ovolation..
Would be kind of dumb on the borg if lets say they run out of people to assimilate, or they want to build up after a loss like 8472, they would do an artificial womb and push out a ton of babies to fill in the ranks. So to me, yes they still have them parts but there in stasis..

    Pro life Borg

Though guess it makes sense not to waste a viable fetus if you can turn it into another drone.

Plus there may be advantages to drones made from children and babies, hence why they expend the effort in matuation chambers. Maybe they give a blank slate that make them more versatile drones?
Maybe good for scout ships that risk being cut off from the collective. Drones with few or no past experiences of individuality would likely remain loyal to the collective until a connection is established.
They may also make good drones for more independent assignments like 7 of 9 was given un scorpion.

That is horrific... taking a baby out of the womb and assimilating it.

The very nature of the Borg is a horror story, the same way I feel about the Cybermen of DOCTOR WHO.

If you could customize body parts that easily, I think there would be a very prosperous enhancement business on Ferenginar.

Assumed without evidence. Could have. Speculation. Worse, audience speculation. At the time "Q Who" was written, that part of Borg culture, such as it is, hadn't even been considered. As such, anything our heroes say, unless directly contradicted at some point, is meant to be taken as What Is Really Going On. And the postulate put forth by Riker was that the baby was indeed Borg by birth. No rescue, no 'victim of assimilation', no nothing. The baby was born Borg, and will never know any other way.

Huh? Not that it matters either way, but...

Setting aside that he's just strolling around making casual speculations avout things he's seeing for the first time, where does he state that the Borg are "Born Borg"? It seems he says the opposite here. They are born like any other baby, then assimilated. He certainly doesn't say that the Borg have mating practices, or carry babies to term, etc

what i dont understand is that the Borg claim to seek perfection, but they look terrible. They've got wires hanging out everywhere, gadgets hanging off their bodies... It's like if you built a brand new house and left all the walls exposed

One could say that perfection does not require looking good.

Leaving aside the notions in some episodes that Borg don't age (presumably after complete maturation), I guess it's conceivable that the Borg, on some long assignment (intergalactic journey, long-term reconnaissance and observation?) might have to adjust their numbers in ways unattainable via assimilation.

At which point, instead of locking 7 of 9 and 3 of 5 to bump uglies in an alcove somewhere, they'll probably just extract genetic material or just clone a perfect baby from scratch. And then assimilate it for stupidity's sake. I'm certain the Borg are above the need to have even a surrogate mother, although they're certainly not above forcing a random drone to carry a Borg baby to term.

I imagine they do, but like Leto Atradis II’s genitals when he became the God Emperor, they’re shriveled and unused.

I guess their concept of perfection doesn't include aesthetic considerations.

I’ve always thought there was a good Borg “story” that could be written about Borg that look and act like perfectly normal humanoids. Almost like Terminators, the Founders or even Control.

This also goes a long way to saying they aren't fully functioning humans anymore. Their skin, which is one of the human organs, almost looks necrotic. Isn't it reasonable to suggest that other biofunctions have ceased functioning as well? It's like they are just meat puppets with a few functioning organs, that are kept animated through some kind of sci-fi energy process?
Is there something specific that was said which would indicate that it was a healthy eye they removed? Just because she got assimilated with 2 healthy eyes doesn't mean they both stayed that way. Isn't it possible that it was only replaced after it became useless?
