Therapists on the bridge

Kirk also had mission specialists:
MCCOY [on monitor]: Oh, I'm assigning your technical aide, Captain. One of our psychiatrists does have a background in rehabilitative therapy. Doctor Noel, standing by in the transporter room now. :luvlove:
Damn ... only 430 people on board, and at least two psychiatrists? Must've been one neurotic crew.

When Noel was on duty, the lines wrapped around the corridors, for some reason. :luvlove:

You're right. My memories are degrading as they age in the transporter buffer. By-the-by, is that Tarsha Yar in a mini-shirt uniform and go-go boots in the final scene of the Farpoint episode? :wtf:

If only Riker had been wearing a skant in that scene too.

He really should have, I honestly kinda liked the skant on men. Star Trek often talks big about how progressive it is when it was never that special in that regard. "Oh, it's the 80s now, we are so progressive, on TNG the men will wear mini skirts too, it's not the 60s anymore! Equality of the sexes, yay!" And then they chickened out immediately by only putting it on two male extras before phasing it out completely.

And no, that particular cut of the skant wasn't super attractive, it was a bit boxy but the pants uniforms didn't look that great either, they could have improved on the skant (and eventually did, Troi's AGT version looked good) but decided not too.

I wouldn't even care that much if Star Trek wouldn't celebrate itself so much as this progressive platform, at the end of the day it doesn't matter if the characters wear goofy skants or goofy spandex pyjamas but we all know the real reason why they randomly put Tasha in a skant for one scene but not Riker or Geordie, women showing skin in a skant fell under "sex sells", men doing the same somewhere between "ridiculous" and "lol, gay!", TNG fell in line before it even aired, that's the opposite of being progressive.

You don't want to show a man in a skant? Fine, then don't do it but don't throw it on an extra for a three second scene and talk about "total equality of the sexes" as if it means something.

Is wearing a skant all that "progressive"? Men have been wearing "skants" for thousands of years. I blame the Germans for introducing pantalones.

When it's presented as an everyday occurence in universe and not a special alien planet or period piece costume then yes, it's progressive. Even today in 2019 you can post the pictures of the male extras in skants on facebook and people will laugh at them or ask why they were wearing those costumes.
The picture of Kirk and Spock above doesn't have the same effect because they are wearing easily indentifiable graeco-roman inspired costumes.

Both Kirk and Spock wore actual mini-skirts (not skants).

Those aren't mini-skirts, those are one piece with the upper torso garments. The Romans called what Spock is wearing, resembling a t shirt several sizes too large, a tunic.

It is kind of funny that they both show more skin than the female crew though. :)

That is following ancient Greek styles where men usually had bare arms and legs while women usually wore dresses that covered the legs. But never fear, female guest stars often showed much more skin that Kirk & Spock in many other episodes.

Well, in that case, TOS female uniforms were really just one-piece tunics (or minidresses) and not mini-skirts at all. We didn't see a (regular) uniform skirt until Discovery's take on the uniform with Commander Nhan, I believe.

The unisex skants have grown on me. I really honestly wish they'd used them as the regular uniform. And yes, that means Picard, Riker, Worf, Data, Geordi and Wesley wearing them. And Q.

I think the women all shaved their legs and wore panty-hose with their mini-uniforms, so, men wearing skants should do the same.

Am I the only sick and twisted mind who sees the title as "The rapist on the bridge" every time I log on?
Maybe I need a therapist.

Women wearing the TNG skants didn't have pantyhose, so there's no need for the men wearing those outfits to either.

I didn’t mind the idea of the skants, but I didn’t like the execution. The neckline and boots seemed too formal or heavy for the casual uniform. I think they would have looked better sleeveless too. Something closer to Achilles, minus the boots.
