As pressure has mounted in recent weeks on House Democrats to move more aggressively against Trump, Pelosi has demonstrated the firm grip she wields over her caucus — quashing, at least for now, the push for impeachment. It is a command that colleagues say is drawn from a deep well of respect for the political wisdom of the most powerful woman in American politics — and fear that challenging her comes with the risk of grave cost to one’s career.

In January, Pelosi blocked two ringleaders of the rebels who had tried to deny her the speakership from securing their preferred committee assignments — even though the peace pact she made to reclaim the gavel precluded retaliation. And veteran lawmakers keenly remember how she rebuffed former Democratic Congress members Jane Harman (Calif.) and John Dingell (Mich.), two occasional thorns in her side, in their quest for chairmanships, moves many viewed as revenge for challenging her vision or authority.

“It’s much better to be with her than against her,” said Rep. Stephen F. Lynch (D-Mass.), a Pelosi antagonist who eventually backed her for speaker. “She doesn’t make it easy, that’s for sure.”

“One, you want to be a team player and support the leader’s position, but secondly you’re worried about your own self and . . . what can happen if you don’t follow along,” said another Pelosi critic, Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), who summed up the concerns members face if they defy Pelosi.

No offense, but whatever (this isn't aimed at you by the way... this is aimed at Pelosi in general). At this point, will doing what she's doing even help? That's in part why I'm pissed. I get where she's going from... but this also is not a normal situation. Dragging things out isn't going to help as the situation gets worse. At least get started on more serious investigation. Something has got to give.

Well, you're probably right. But I've lost my delusions about justice for the super wealthy a long time ago. That reminds me of a line in a tv movie (I think): "I am very rich, I can get away with one murder, maybe two..."

I’m not entirely sure of the legal implications, but I’m thinking that copy/pasting the first nine paragraphs of the article is not a good idea. Summarizing in your own words is fine, copying a paragraph or two might be ok as a preview, but copying that much of an article could be considered against our piracy rules. I wouldn’t want to cause any trouble for the board, so I would recommend some judicious editing of your post, please.

Also, and this is just IMHO from a non-American perspective, but impeaching Trump leaves you with President Mike Pence. I can’t imagine that’s an outcome that any progressive wants to see.

@Avro Arrow : unfortunately, impeachment alone does not remove a president from office. Both Johnson and Clinton were impeached but not removed. Nixon resigned before impeachment proceedings could conclude.To remove a sitting President, after impeachment proceedings conclude, there is a trial. Clinton, for example, was impeached but acquitted during the trial and therefore not removed.

So, even if Cheeto Voldemort was impeached, he might not be removed.
