The least disliked episode of ENT - Season One

"DESERT CROSSING" is the weakest of the ones remaining. It goes.

Broken Bow
Fight or Flight
Silent Enemy
Shuttlepod One
Shockwave I

Broken Bow
Silent Enemy
Shuttlepod One
Shockwave I

BB is a decent pilot, Spod1 is a great bottle episode, SE has pineapple :) and SW, though not great, did tease season 2. Has to be ForF just because I don't find it that memorable on rewatches. Most of my season 1 faves (like Fusion) long removed...

I am surprised it went this far because I really hate "Shuttlepod One" with a passion. It's inane on so many levels it's amazing. Malcolm stupid macho remarks about T'Pol, Malcolm wet dreams about T'Pol, Malcolm endless letters to his "conquests", remember that he ended up alone on E2! The whole thing doesn't make any sense, why wouldn't they speed up to retrieve the shuttlepod? I mean why in hell wouldn't enterprise go at maximum speed to retrieve two crewmen stuck on a shuttlepod without much food and with NO toilet facilities whatsoever!! That episode is ALMOST as embarrassing as "the one where Archer sleeps in sickbay"... but not quite, fortunately.

Broken Bow
Silent Enemy
Shockwave I

Axing "Shockwave". Again with my hatred of the TCW! "Broken Bow" is a pretty strong pilot (and I was still foolishly hopeful at this point they had some sort of decent idea as to where they were going with the TCW). "Silent Enemy" is a season 1 favorite of mine... at least, the A-story is. That B story with Hoshi and Reed is fairly agonizing.

Broken Bow
Silent Enemy

Annnd the winner is Broken Bow! :klingon:

I took the Silent Enemy off.
Why the alien of the week so aggressive without reason?
Why on the earth an intelligent person like Trip didn't clarify issues with his girl friend before he decided for volunteering a long term mission?
Why Malcolm's family with long military history doesn't know anything about a member of family? (You have to know all strengths/ weakness/ illness//hobbies etc. of every member of your military unit, if you want to survive/ victory!)
..
Too many unanswered questions!

I know it's not widely beloved, but my star of season 1 is "Vox Sola." I always compare it to "Civil Defense", it's not reinventing the wheel, but it's a perfectly executed ensemble hour of sci-fi adventure. The tension escalation is spot-on, everyone in the cast is involved in a meaningful way, and the wisdom of the early ENT policy of not casually offing redshirts really shines here. Every other series would have killed some no-names in the alien goo, but this episode earns much greater emotional impact by saving everyone, even the randoms we just met.

sekundant, lemme take a wild guess...Andorian Incident?

You got it @HopefulRomantic . :adore:

Maybe I have to correct myself. Andorian Incident (AI) is "one of the" my all time favorite. The episode has everything what a geek hearth desires, from action to B-Movie dialogs, everything. And all these elements rounded with a good story.

It is a game changer kind of story and tells us this Vulcans are not your mothers Vulcans, they are different, which is highly logical. Even old good Heraclitus said “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.” for 2500 years before. Why should be believe in one day we will become a society without money, without poverty, without racism, without greed, .....without all those horrible things, if we think all other societies never changed? Archer's dislike of Vulcans, his delusion about becoming emancipated them seem rather personal issue until AI. He was more radical at his attitudes even than his father. And we had T'Pol who doesn't seem to be a saboteur or hostile motivated. Independent of their personal relationship, we realized the problem is more complex and more dimensional than Archer's private war.
Additionally, there is another player on the board which is unknown until now. It was a genial twist to bound another great TOS alien race to ENT narrative. Interaction of three races war real fun: ignorance of space tourists Archer and Trip, ascetic Vulcan monks, brutal Andorians. We see something and at next we realize it is an illusion and the cards will shuffle again.

And we will be witness of some prophesy moments: not only T'Pol's loyalty to Archer but her loyalty to herself as individuum (Achtung, for a Vulcan!), begin of a great bromance, the very first step to through Federation. If you don't understand AI, you will never get the spirit of ENT, imho. :vulcan:

We get funny Tarantinoesk moments like smelling humans, subtil blanket fight, Archers investigation..:guffaw:

And contrast of amazing premiere of Jeffrey Combs as Shran and cringey performances of Vulcan monk/ spion and Androian randy officer. Breathtaking sight of P'Jem from outside and cheap decoration of inside.

Ahh, I can talk about AI endless hours, so rather stop now.

"Broken Bow" was the obvious winner
As for "Silent Enemy", I really liked this one, would have been nice to see these sinister aliens making another appearance, it's almost as if the writers forgot about them.
"The Andorian Incident" is brilliant as well.

Well, in their defense, Cgi cost an arm and a leg by then.

Yeah, I suppose it did
Was still a pity we never see these guys again, would rather have seen them causing seven shades of shit than fucking comedy Ferengi villians for example.
