Spoilers Question about Ego and Thanos

I was wondering if Ego from The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had his way

Spoiler: Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 2

and reached his goal of making all the worlds "Him". How would Thanos have reacted to that?

Because Thanos is all about balance. Not making all the people and everything disappear. So assuming he survived that, what would he do?

as a threat to the balance of natural resources he's always on about. Consequently he'd declare war on Ego and try to exterminate HIM.

Mrs. Silvercrest and I discussed this offline and realized that would make Thanos a hero! Would he team up with the Avengers or Guardians to do it?

Come to think of it, the loss of life from Ego's actions would probably be so great that Thanos would never have to carry out his original agenda. But he probably would want to assemble the Gauntlet to use against Ego.

I think Thanos would be able to defeat Ego. Ego wouldn't have been able to plant any of his blooms on Thanos ship, and I think that his ship has enough firepower to destroy the planet-like shell around Ego's brain and destroy him. Remember that the planet was essentially hollow inside. I mean, the Guardians were able to destroy him with some mining equipment and a portable explosive.

Mr. Silvercrest and I were thinking that maybe any planet that had an Infinity Stone would not have taken to Ego's plant (self). Also places like Knowhere I doubt Ego would have bothered with so they would have been around. There would have been survivors. And wondering if the the Ravagers would have joined up with Thanos too. A lot of things could be possible?

Well, actually what I was saying is that I'm not sure how the stones would react to him. The Power stone depopulates a planet when it touches the surface — so if it touches one of Ego's planet (plant) extensions, does it make him wilt, or does it make him more powerful?

I have to admit, for some reason it never occurred to me that Thanos could take the battle right back to Ego's central brain. I agree that if he did, he'd have enough firepower for the job.

But here's another thought: Once Ego completed his plan, WOULD his consciousness still be in just that one place, or would it be replicated across the universe? That'd make it much harder for Thanos to root him out ... so to speak.

Well, I think Thanos would have definitely tried to stop Ego from pursuing his plans. I am somewhat reminded from one of Thanos' very early apperances, where he teamed up with Adam Warlock in order to stop Warlock's evil future self, Magus, from taking over everything. Of course he didn't just do it out of the goodness of his heart, but rather because he had need of the regular Warlock to get the soul gem.

While I like most of Starlin's Warlock/Thanos stuff (well, except for most of the 90s stuff...) I can't help but consider his original Warlock run my favorite story of his. It got just about everything, an incredible story, amazing character moments, especially from Warlock, and I'll be damned if I wouldn't praise Starlin's artwork.

Yeah, Starlin was cooking with fire with on Warlock. As far as 90s his stuff goes, I enjoyed his run on Silver Surfer for the most part and I do consider The Infinity Gauntlet to be a classic, but I agree that everything after that (Infinity War, Infinity Crusade, Infinity Watch) was Marvel paying Starlin to draw blood from a stone and milk the cow dry.

Yeah, I feel pretty similar. I also loved Thanos Quest, it's the only thing that ever rivaled my love for his original Warlock run. As far as the Infinity Watch goes, I think he had a good thing going on for about six issues, but after that it went down hill pretty fucking fast. I actually liked the later writer's contributions to the Infinity Watch more than Starlin's... Starlin's Surfer was great though, but I'm still waiting for a sequel to Dynamo City

Incidentally I'm currently right in the middle of Infinity Abyss and I'm quite enjoying it.

Infinity War and Infinity Crusade were examples of the worst kind of comics crossover event. At least with Infinity Gauntlet, if you didn't read any of the crossover material, you could still come away with a complete story. Not so with War and Crusade. Those stories were filled with editorial notes like "To see what happens here follow this character into issue such and such of his own book". I hate that shit.
