A pleasant trip down memory lane.

Transferred lots of photos to the laptop from various storage devices. Photos of before before we had kids, the old cars we had, the cat, holidays, nights out, etc. Plus lots of the kids when they were really little. Total blast from past.

I have a calendar with all sorts of fortune cookie-like phrases. I like today's slogan:

    Be a pineapple!
    Stand tall
    wear a crown
and be sweet on the inside.

    Sound advice :)

It's been hella quiet at home today. I haven't heard anything from my noisy neighbour in the last 18 days since he had some kind of a meltdown. (Something about being terrified, having no money, a dog, and the balls to do that.) Anyway... I think there was an intervention that night and he's been put on time out.

It's a strange feeling to mentally/emotionally breathe again. Almost, to hear yourself think. I'm appreciating things more and have control of my time.

My hair is now long enough to brush it back and stays off my face. Good times.

How long would you like it?

The longest I've ever been able to get mine to grow was about the middle of my lower back, but only the longest of the strands and it was pretty thin at that point.

I don’t know yet. The longest part is to the base of my neck, but the wife hates it and I don’t know what to do with it. I’m liking it longer, but I think it’s more about giving my corporate persona the finger.

The days of the short back and sides, clean shaven, ironed shirt, company tie, running around doing someone else’s bidding. I can look in the mirror now and say ‘that’s not me anymore’.

    Does that even make sense?

Total sense! I get wanting to shed your old self and old life; to leave those stresses behind.

Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Frustrate.

I solved a really stupid bug in really janky code today.

Basically its an internal tool that was started for a one off purpose, but then gradually had more and more stuff added to it until it became big enough that actually needed to maintain it, but since it was started as a one off tool it's really hacky.

Without going into too much identifying detail. It manages a sequence of calls to an external thing. But, it sequences them by setting off the next one when a response arrives from the previous one, a response that can in no way be identified with a specific request. And, in case it never receives a response, it has a timeout timer that also triggers the next thing.

And, of course, the code that triggers this request uses pointers that are stored outside the method, so if two requests get triggered at the same time, it sometimes uses the protocol for one request with the data from a different one blowing everything up.

It turned out, some of these requests came back so fast that they came back before the response timer got started, which would of course time out because the request already came back. Causing both events to trigger a next request at the same time. And the team had been trying to track that down for weeks.

^ ouch! It sounds like it'd be wiser to redesign the complete programme from scratch. It's amazing it worked until now.

Good thing today: my PC refused to start. Brought it upstairs to my admin for a checkup where it promptly ran perfectly. It was propaby a lose connection (though I did check all cables twice). Annoying, but on the other hand I'm lucky it works again now. (On the third hand, it it hadn't, I'd have had an alibi to take the afternoon off ;) At any rate, fate owes me an ice cream after work  ) :D

my rent payment bounced back and I immediately informed my house management. They were very nice about it and when I called my bank it turned out it was a database error in my house management's bank LOL.
If only all bank problems would sort themselves out that easily

I have had my first visitor and my first like on my blog. I’m not pushing it at the moment because there isn’t much on there, but a like is a like.

Hubby found another charger for my tablet from his box of various cords & chargers. It seems to work a little better now. Maybe this will help keep it alive a bit longer.

It's good to be married to an IT guy.

Thank you. There's more on the negative side, but that's private for now.

But at least I'm down a size from where I was. I need to latch onto what I can.
