because so many people in my life are still in high school.. all the sports are talked about all the time. This past season has been all about wrestling. I know wrestling has, over the years, become more and more coed, and thus less and less surprising when the girl wins, there are still come surprises. about 5 years a female wrestle who was only in 8th grade beat the same senior twice in exhibition matches. More recently, 8th grader Mia Macaluso also beat a senior in a JV match.. but this season all the kids I know were talking about this match.. at a recent varsity tournament 7th grader (only 12 years old) female wrestler pinned a senior varsity wrestler. An article was written about how she was the first female in her area to win a varsity match, but, aside form insinuating that she got lucky that she was facing opponents who were less established than the boy she normally would have faced (she actually wrestled UP a weight class in this match) that still doesn't change the fact that the age/ gender disparity is huge. and if you watch the match, it wasn't like she got lucky. she was clearly stronger than him, and controlled him through the match, and the last minute and 15 seconds or so is him just squirming helplessly beneath her. What is a senior male wrestler supposed to take away to losing so badly to a 12 year old girl?
