Samsung Gear VR

I've just ordered myself a Samsung S7 because I need a new phone (got a cheap Moto G3 at moment). I've always wanted the Gear VR since I tried it out several years ago when my friend got it when they first release. There appears to be several version of the device now so I was wondering about if any people here had any experience with them?

I see the 2017 version of Amazon with a motion controller is around £85 but is it compatible with the S7? or will I need the 2016 version of VR?

Do people use any other VR devices with their Android phones?

I have the Gear VR and and S7 Edge and it works fine. I've had both for a couple years.
