The joys of "Trials and Tribble-ations"

Haven't really kept up with DS9 for a long time, but watched "Trials and Tribble-ations" tonight for the first time in yonks.
That was some impressive pieces of editing to bolster up a pretty weak semi comedic story
Dax and Sisko looked the part as Kirk era crewmen, O'Brien and Bashir a bit like fish out of water, but I enjoyed the episode immensely.

I actually just started reading the novelization for this episode. It has a nice foreword by David Gerrold too. He noted he wanted to hate it since they were using his work but he ended up loving it. He had some nice things to say about Rick Berman and the rest of the production team as well.

The Trouble with Tribbles was never my favorite Star Trek episode--I mean, I didn't hate it. I liked it as much as any episode. But I too enjoyed DS9's take on it. And it was nice to see the original series Enterprise in all her glory with modern special effects--before "In a Mirror, Darkly" (though that was the Defiant) and the remastered series. I give the production team a lot of credit for striking a good balance between paying homage while beautifying it as well.

Its a polished and fun episode. There was some goofy moments where Jadzia fawned over 23rd century tricorders, and waxed rhapsodic over her affair with McCoy. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Yeah, Jadzia was a little too giddy, but she kind of served as a surrogate for the audience in that way.

I thought her adoring the tricorder was one of Jadzia's best moments! Yes, she's partly standing in for the fans of TOS there, but it also makes sense for her character to react that way.

Agreed! Farrell and Brooks do a great yin and yang in this episode. And if it seems out of character for Dax, just remember that it is from Sisko's perspective.

That Tribbles episode was the very first DS9 show I ever saw. I was hooked on the show after that. I had to play catch up on a lot of the shows to get caught it with the plots. That is a fun one to just watch. I like the Original one from Star Trek of course. I have to admit I was just a little kid when the Original was aired and some of the shows were kind of scary. But later I did like it and now I like DS9 a lot!

This episode is quite fun. When I first saw that it was included as an extra on the TOS S2 blu-ray set, I assumed that the episode itself had gotten some kind of hi-def treatment. How disappointed I was.

It's probably my favourite DS9 Episode
I first saw DS9 in the mid to late 90s and grew to be enthralled with the Dominion storyline, the J'em Haddar (sp) and Weyoun, Dukat etc but Dax in an old Trek uniform left a lasting memory
I've virtually forgotten all the more series ones

If it’s not a top 5 DS9 episode it’s pretty close.

I actually love how giddy Jadzia is considering she lived during that time.

The stinger with Sisko going back to meet Kirk was pretty great too.

When they did TOS-R I thought it would have been great if they had used the footage of O’Brien and Bashir as part of the group Kirk dresses down after the big fight.
