I'm guessing it's a Romulan talking, the rescue armada was to save as many Romulans as possible but a ship with Beverly (and their children?) on board was destroyed when the supernova destroyed Romulus, breaking Picard.

Also, I love the ST'09-style arcologies in the distance, exactly like the ones in Iowa.:)

I'm really starting to wonder if during the rescue mission he lost the enterprise.

Isn’t it supposed to be France though. Picard was from France and it looked like home.

That teaser is fantastic!! I can't believe Captain Picard is coming back! TNG was my first Trek and Picard was my first captain. This is a childhood dream come true.

In terms of the backstory, it seems Picard was an admiral and led a huge rescue fleet to try to save Romulus but as Spock said, the unthinkable happened, and the star went supernova and destroyed Romulus. Spock was also presumed dead. Picard took the failure of his rescue mission as well as the "death" of his friend Spock personally. Maybe Beverly died as well? So Picard leaves Starfleet. That's my take.

I am really looking forward to the series. I am assuming that something is going to happen that will convince Picard to rejoin Starfleet or at least get involved again. Presumably he will lead a ship with some new characters on new adventures.

I don't think the unthinkable can solely be the destruction of Romulus, as the teaser tells us that it caused Picard to lose faith in both himself and "us." Did the Federation turn back the refugees of the disaster? What did the speaker's people do to cause his loss of faith?
