What We Left Behind - Documentary Update Confirms *Some* HD Remastering

Yeah. Keep in mind though that DS9 was syndicated, while VOY and ENT were on UPN, which was not available in every single media market in the country. Hence the argument could be made that VOY would have been roughly similar in ratings if it had as much nationwide exposure as DS9.
I still remember catching TNG, DS9 & Voyager on FOX Rochester back on Saturday afternoons in 96 & 97. And I remember stations here in Eastern Ontario picking up Voyager as well. While Voyager seemed to be UPN’s flagship show, it definitely seemed to be in syndication from the get go. Enterprise, on the other hand, seemed to have a very restrictive license.

Colm Meaney took time off to do movies.
Yes, but Colm actually skipped very few episodes. He was never missing for more than three episodes in a row. In the entire run, he skipped three eps twice, two eps twice, and four single episodes. Terry wanted thirteen eps off in one season, Colm had fourteen eps off in the whole seven years.

13 episodes off in one season does seem very extreme. I was thinking it would have been like 3 or 4. Maybe even a few episodes were she used lightly like in one scene or something.

Especially the final season.

The only way I can see it working is if they had her captured by the Dominion or something and occasionally showed what she was going through, but...

...honestly, at that point, killing Jadzia almost seems like the best thing to do from a writing standpoint, versus 'disappearing' her for half a season.

That's putting the cart before the horse. First, Farrell wanted to be let off for a few days to pick up guest spots she was being offered. She wasn't asking for whole episodes off. Berman refused. Second, she asked for more money to compensate for the loss of leverage. Berman refused. Third, she asked to have her character become a recurring character. Berman refused. She didn't start with the idea that she would become a recurring player. It was her fallback position.

However they got to that point, Terry herself says that she told them to cut her season by half or let her go. She was annoyed that they were apparently giving her a take-it-or-leave-it offer, so she did the same in return. I totally understand wanting something that your boss doesn't want to give you. I'd love to work less or get paid more too.

From a writing standpoint I just don't see how Jadzia appearing in half the episodes could have worked credibly short of, as I said, having the Dominion capture her, and that would still have felt strange from a viewer perspective. I've seen series where a main character was abducted (SG-1 did it a few times), but it was never half a season's worth of episodes. Farrell can say she wanted to be recurring, but it doesn't make sense for Jadzia to suddenly become recurring.

Alternate option is that she's off running unseen missions on Defiant, but that also smacks of weak storytelling.

And if Jadzia was often off on the Defiant, they wouldn't be able to use the Defiant for anything else.
I guess they could make her 1st officer of some other ship, or CO of another Defiant class. Then they'd have a lot of grief about her and Worf being separated.

I understand the unhappiness with the heavy work schedule during shooting season. They had to work appalling long hours, especially the actors who needed to spend a couple of hours in makeup like Farrell. However, that's kind of how Hollywood works -- if they worked shorter days, they'd have to work MORE days, which would mean more time in makeup and more time for crew setting up in proportion to their time actually shooting.

All things considered, having her character die might have been the best of a lot of bad options.

Apparently the exclusive disc is content produced by Shout Factory themselves, so I can't blame the actual doc producers...but it is still annoying. I really hate when they announce exclusive releases that are limited but don't tell you what's on them at first.

Uggh, I just found out Shout won't ship to international locations, so I guess I miss out regardless.

Their stuff is usually region locked anyway isn't it? Unless you have a multiregion player you wouldn't be able to watch it anyway.

I would have liked to know why they thought that killing Damar this close to the end made for a more interesting story.

I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread yet so I apologize for a probably repeat question, but when is this going to be available to buy/download? Would love to watch it again.
