Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

There is more in-universe historical precedent for the sort of council that we witnessed in the finale than there was at the time for something like a parliament springing up. Great councils were a thing in the books, although admittedly I can't recall with certainty if any were ever referenced in the show (I don't think so, but not positive). And of course there's also the ironborn example of kingsmoots, which we did see.

Yes, I know about Great Councils, even if don't think either they were referenced in the show. It just felt too abrupt and unrealistic for this kind of show for a speech bringing forth these kinds of societal changes. However, if I think of all the hours I've spent playing Crusader Kings II, Tyrion ultimately achieved nothing. If all the electors love you more than their own ambitions, they'll just choose your designated heir anyway. And in the end you'll end up with a Holy Roman Empire-like situation where everybody knows that only the firstborn of the Austrian Habsburg line has any realistic chance at getting the crown.

Well, to be fair, I'd love to see a scenario for the GoT mod for the game that depicts a series endgame scenario just so that I could see if I could get Bronn on the throne . I've had way too much fun with Littlefinger in the version for the previous game... Even though my favorite playthroughs are always either Rhaegar winning Robert's Rebellion and raising Jon with Lyanna (the Tower of Joy has two randomly calculated events for both Lyanna and Jon surviving, with different appropriate viewpoints for Ned Stark, Robert and Rhaegar), or Daenerys steamrolling everything and all her crimes being thankfully masked by fact that you only ever see the map and the profiles of your characters.

He was always the hero, to me. I want him to command a starship somewhere.
Don't get me wrong, I've always loved Tyrion too and I wanted him to survive til the end. Becoming Hand of The King was a natural ending to him. But when he made his speech he sounded almost more like Jean-Luc Picard than Tyrion Lannister. It was a genuinely good speech, it just felt out of place in Game of Thrones and had a too large impact for me. But now that you mention it, I could actually see him join Starfleet if such a crossover were ever to occur. Arya as well, and maybe Jon, but I'd suspect he'd just go look for giant's milk and maybe more fire-kissed women with Tormund (no, don't you dare think about Jon Snow/Sylvia Tilly. Bad SJGardner, bad!)

I'm amused, though I also feel it necessary to counter: But there's so much else on HBO worth the price of a subscription!
Oh there is... the pic is tongue-in-cheek. ;) HBO has made some real winners and I expect they'll make more in the productions ahead. :)

Gosh everyone is talking about this, it's weird to be out of the loop. I like happyish endings with a magnificent dragon still alive and of course a faithful wolf, that's pretty much what I've picked out of all this. It's never easy ending something people are deeply invested in, I remember the ending of LOST (which was also much discussed but I approved of). You're sort of in mourning for it being over but grateful too for it having been there.

Stages of grief -
Denial - It's not really over is it? How about a prequel or sequel???
Anger - I didn't get the ending I wanted! I hate this... you will suffer HBO.
Bargaining - Maybe if I watch it again I can interpret it even more to my liking?
Depression - I feel flat and miss it.
Acceptance - All and all what a ride, thank you.

It's a GoT Wedding too, so they could have killed EVERYONE and it would have made sense. ;)

The North doing a "Brexit" is another thing that annoys me. The North went through an undead invasion. At least the Last Hearth and Winterfell were damaged badly. I suspect Mole Town as well. They need to rebuild. Seperating from the rest of Westeros now is a stupid move. The Wars are over. You got Bran Stark on the throne of Westeros. Why break away now ? You won the war. Now it is the time to rebuild. You need resources and manpower and Westeros under King Bran can provide it.

However since the North is independant, they can do a few things now.

Since the Night Watch is no more needed, maybe the North under Queen Sansa can claim the lands of the gift and new gift that the Crows previously controlled. Maybe the North can perhaps even expand beyond the wall. The North has a lot of potential for the future.

You're right of course. It was my favorite show ever, surpassing Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine. And despite the slump it had taken in quality in the last few seasons, it has made a definite impact in history and my life which I'll never forget.

I've never expected Drogon to survive, but he did and I was forever grateful for him not burning Jon in his grief (btw, I still can't decide if Jon was a major idiot for not fleeing as soon as he could or if he was actually a subconscious genius for not invoking Drogon's wrath). And if we take take what the books said about dragons being hermaphroditic, he might even end up laying eggs (who knows what he did with Rhaegal and Viserion before, amirite?). But I actually found tears in my eyes when Jon reunited with Ghost. This damn show made him part with his direwolf without a word and Ghost still accepted him back unconditionally. D'aaaww. Jon is of the North and he belongs there with Ghost and Tormund and the others. If only Dany had a luckier story arc and realized early enough that no one wanted her to rule, had an epihpany and left for the north with Jon so that everyone could be happy. Well, a man could dream.

Sansa should have at the least made a play for Robb's kingdom - the North and the Riverlands.

Granted, that likely would have met with a great deal more resistance than the North on its own leaving.

What exactly was the role R'hllor intended for Jon by resurrecting him?

The lord of light was anti Night King. So Jon was resurrected to bring Dany and the big army to fight the dead dudes. Also resurrected Beric so he can save Arya the NightKingSlayer.

But that army was completely unnecessary.

I did mention Arya being saved too. But not sure about the army not being needed. Without the army the dead dudes would have run over winterfell quickly and the Night King wouldn't need to bother going after Bran. That's why the Westros councill of lords thanked Turgo Nudho and the unsullied for saving Westros.

I'm really curious how Jon Snow and others would have reacted had Dany gone to King's Landing first before dealing with the White Walkers at Winterfell like she originally wanted. After massacring everybody in the capital, would Jon have kept her alive to battle the undead?

Well, he accepted the Red Woman.

Well, at that point there was even less reason for her to nuke the civilians than she had now. She would have just captured the city with ease, relatively bloodlessly.

Which was a real bizarreness in the writing. Starting from the last season everybody began telling her that attacking the city would lead to countless civilian casualties. Yet in the Bells it as shown, that, no, it really doesn't. (Unless you intentionally start killing the civilians afterwards!)
