Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

Not sure I buy Jon surviving after killing Dany surrounded by her forces. Although Ghost getting a real ending was nice by consequence.

I could see something with Arya in the future.

It was an ok ending. Nothing spectacular good or bad... Pretty lowkey honestly.

I have to say, I quite loved this episode. Perhaps the ending was a bit too neat, particularly in regards to how the conflict between Daenerys' remaining armies and the rest of Westeros was resolved. That said, I was surprised when Tyrion suggested Brandon (the Broken!) should be the ruler, although it continues playing on the weird idea of someone who doesn't want to rule would be the best person suited to rule. It was a poor argument for Jon and I'm not entirely convinced it's a good argument for Bran, aside from him knowing the history of the world and could potentially learn from all of the mistakes of the past. I had been rooting for Sansa but ultimately I agree that it makes more sense that should enforce the North's independence once more with her as their queen (and she fulfilled her childhood dream!).

That said, I loved the how episode rickrolled us with Sam's suggestion of a democratic government. It feels like D&D were paying attention to some of the online theories and decided to troll us all.

The only other truly surprising thing about the episode was how much of a happy, upbeat note the story ended on, with very little death, aside Daenerys and we all knew that was coming. This is especially surprising considering everything Martin has suggested about how it would end poorly for most involved. Considering it's been stated repeatedly that D&D got a rough outline from Martin about the ending, the way things played out in the last 20 minutes or so appear to what will be getting in the books.

Moving past that surprise, I am thrilled with how everyone's stories ended, even if they were tied up a bit too neatly, too, particularly who filled out the Small Council (albeit not the entirety of it), I love all of those choices, especially Brienne as the Lord Commander of the King's Guard and writing a...sanitized version of Jaime's story in the White Book (as it's referred to in the books). I'm also greatly relieved that Arya didn't resume her cycle of violence by going after Daenerys and instead decided to explore the unseen world. The look on her face on the prow of the ship reminded me of the same unmasked happiness on her face when she first sailed to Braavos.

The only thing that struck me as off was how the episode seemed to present Jon's exile back to the Wall with the Night's Watch as this great and terrible thing. He's clearly shown he's best suited up there and has a strong affinity for those people. So why was he looking back as the Wall's gate closed, looking all sourpussed?

Also...winter sure seemed to end awfully fast, after all that build-up!

I think they should have given Bran a different title than King.

It kind of felt like when Rom got made Nagus, like the writers had to calibrate their baby step to make it a small enough step to be believable.

I enjoyed seeing all the super-likable characters end up on the council. Also I liked the scene where Brienne fills in all of Jamie’s heroic acts.

Couldn't they let Dany at least sit on the throne for a second?

Hopefully the lame complaints about Jon not petting his wolf will end now.

Torgo Nudho was a real ass in this episode. I am surprised he survived.

Couldn't ask for a better ending than a Stark as a king.

Really like the new small council. Some of the funniest characters are there:
"You are master of grammar too?"

I loved it, and loved the series, best TV series ever. Looking forward to the prequel. But what I really want in for the GRRM dude to finish the books and then write a sequel.

Not sure how I feel about the ending. Didn’t hate it but, didn’t really love it either. Ended satisfactorily enough, but rang hollow. Gonna have to sleep on this.

Forgot to mention: The only thing I was truly disappointed about was Drogon not roasting right there and then! I'm more okay with it since he didn't end up becoming king, but I was still a little let down.

Also, now we know what the Entertainment Weekly writer was freaking out about: The surprising return of Edmure and Robin. Were we suppose to know who was sitting between Edmure and Sam as well as who sat next to Lord Royce? Or were they simply representatives of different kingdoms like the guy obviously from Dorne but didn't speak?

If you asked me after season four “Who are your favorite characters” I pretty much would have said Arya, Dany and the entire small council. Which made it cooler that group ended up together ruling the kingdom.

Bran seems like an odd choice but it makes some sense that Tyrion would throw the name out. He’s someone not disposed to killing who nobody would object to much.

I was surprised when Drogon didn’t kill Jon.

I agree there should have been more explanation of what happened between Dany dying and the meeting and why Grey Worm agreed to sit down and discuss the situation amicably but pace-wise in a TV show it might not have worked.

That was hysterical! The neatness of all familiar faces on the Small Council aside, I really enjoyed the banter between them. I would absolutely watch a sitcom about their meetings.

Yeah, same here. Even though we know the ending, many things will be different considering how certain characters and plotlines were playing out vastly different from the show when it diverged from the books.

Wikipedia has the title of this episode as "A Dream of Spring time". But earlier it was listed as "A Dream of Spring" to match the title of the last book. Hopefully it's the latter.

Oddly, it's still not listed with a title on HBO Now. Soooo weird, this withholding the episode titles policy.

Someone has suggested that one of the guys might be Howland Reed but I don’t see any reason for him turning up. Maybe it is a guy from the Westerlands?

It was a fairly decent wrap-up, with a few glaring items that bugged me. I didn't like the ham-handed attempt at lecturing us on Democracy, nor did I like Bran becoming King. Queen Sansa was excellent and Jon and Arya's endings suits me just fine.

I'm left wondering why Jon didn't get torched by the dragon. I didn't see a clue in that, except the dragon deliberately didn't burn Jon and they made a big deal of him melting down the iron throne. Do we suddenly have some sort of dragon sentience? Not sure I understand that part, but flying off into the sunset with Dani was fitting.

Yeah, that doesn't make much sense. If they wanted the crannogmen of the Neck represented, they would've used Meera Reed.

I did wonder about the Westerlands, so maybe that's the answer.

I'm left wondering why Jon didn't get torched by the dragon.

I assumed it recognized him as a Targaryan master, same reason he was able to ride on a dragon.

btw, I thought it was funny that Tyrion wasn't even mentioned in that A Song of Ice and Fire book that Sam brought to the council.

The dragon doesn’t need to be fully sentient to have that level of understanding. Just has to be as smart as a large predator but with a little more capacity for restraint.

About the Unsullied starting their own house.

Umm... one small flaw in that plan. :)

I hope in the end that nobody sits on the throne. The throne represents nothing good and a lot of bad. It should be melted down and turned into farming implements and the people of Westeros should adopt a new form of government.
Just saying... :techman:

And not even Dani sat on the throne.

Note that I never said "democracy". And stepping away from hereditary rule to a King and or queen chosen by a council is a new form of government. :nyah:

The only thing I got wrong was the farming implements part.

Wow! I thought that was a great finale!! Best way the show could've ended by far.

I don't think anyone was surprised that Dany was going to be killed, but the way they didn't it was great. Was it going to be Arya? No, it was Jon in a surprise moment when we were thinking he'd pull a Jamie and stick with her. Well, he stuck it to her. But, that was great. He took the responsibility to do it himself even though it was tough just like Ned taught him back in season one.

The scenes with Jon and Tyrion were great.

Loved how Tyrion talked his way out of imprisonment!

So, Westeros took a step forward in the form of its government. It's not a democracy but there was a vote. In the US, our democracy started with only white landing owning males being able to vote. Westeros already has women voting. It's a step.

I have a hard time seeing Bran as King. He's just too detached and feel that bad things could happen under his rule. He does have some good helpers though.

We were told it was a bittersweet ending. And, I guess it was. But, in reality it was a totally joyful ending for our characters. They each pretty much get what they want. Jon is living in the north. Sansa is Queen of the North of an independent North. Arya is out discovering the world. Tyrion says he doesn't want to be hand but it's what he is born to do, and has been doing. Sam is doing well. Brienne has a good position.

Of course, there has been a lot of losses. Personal and otherwise. It's a very happy ending by any standards but particularly by Game of Thrones standards!

Screw the planned prequel!! I want to see what happens in 10 years, as Tyrion says!
