I wish more cinema franchises would play fast and loose with the continuity like X-Men movies have done.

Quicksilver was moving too fast for you to see and Nightcrawler was in between bamfs.

Much of it is hand-waveable. In X3, Charles could have been using an electronic harness to walk. In Logan, Caliban could be in his seventies. Arcangel in Apocalypse may not even be Warren Worthington.

    Moira... Is a problem.

Killing characters that are supposed to be alive at the end of DoFP... Would be a problem.

Unless of course both movies are fever dreams in David Haller's mind. At this point, I'd take that as an explanation.

Charles telling Logan that he first met Magneto when he was 17 and that he and Erik built Cerebro rather than Hank is a problem.

Oh, right the DOFP future ending, I forgot about that. I was just thinking maybe there was a scene of the current team all together or something at first. I haven't seen DOFP, Apocalypse, or Logan since the one time I saw them each in theaters.

Isn't that in First Class? I really enjoyed it but it had to go. It does seem unlikely that Charles could have finished a PhD by age 17. Erik could have helped him rebuild Cerebro, I suppose.

You don't need the movie though. The next movie re-establishes that Mystique knew Charles as a child and we get flashbacks and call backs to the final battle from First Class in both sequels. The chronology works better without it.

So James MacAvoy was playing a prodigious seventeen-year-old in "First Class" (he was in the bar with a fake ID or using mind control to fool the employees about his age), and then some time in the couple of years after "First Class" but before Erik went to jail, Erik and Charles temporarily made up and became buddies again and worked on the Cerebro room that we see in DOFP, and which appeared to have been the same one seen in X-Men (2000). Problems solved. :techman:

Judging by how often they make up and break up on screen, I'd say there must be at least five additional encounters taking place between movies and therefore this explanation is flawless.

I would definitely tend to agree. Singer, however, has said that he doesn't feel bound by that IIRC.

On the other hand, using the comic books as inspiration, perhaps it's possible that someone killed could be resurrected somehow at a later point in the timeline.

Like Professor X looking the same and being paralysed or the restoration of Wolverine's adamantium?

If Singer said to me he's not bound by the continuity he put in place, I'd slap him hard. He may just be saying that to keep us on our toes.

All of that is adequately set up by material in prior films. When you have a certain Erik Lehnsherr on your team the restoration of adamantium is really a non-issue.

If I recall, he triggered the security machine and had metal claws already but yeah, they specified that two years had passed so some off screen adventure with Yukio fixed that problem. Maybe Polaris?

Not sure how Prof. X looking the same is set up at all, let alone adequately. The ending of X3 implies he's going to live on in the body of a comatose man, but that man really doesn't look like Patrick Stewart.

It's been a very long time since I've bothered watching it, but isn't said patient supposed to be his identical twin brother? (hence his voice sounding like Stewart in the post credits) Whom of course, is never mentioned in any of the McAvoy films so far as I can recall...

Don't recall if any claim was made, but if so they're not backed up by the actual face shown.

I'm one of the few that think killing Xavier in TLS worked (one of the few things in it that did) but then that same movie already trying to, hinting to bring him back was really dumb.

It's confirmed in the audio commentary for The Last Stand that he is in fact Xavier's twin brother that was born brain dead due to Xavier's powers. As for why Xavier's in a flying wheelchair in Days of Future Past? That body had been a vegetable for decades. I'm sure the muscles in his legs had atrophied.

Sweet. I didn't know that. That is what happened in the comics. Xavier's telepathic powers reached out and wiped he's twin brother's conscious mind before birth. Because Xavier's family was wealthy, they kept him in a hospital and had all his needs taken care of.

Xavier was also in the ending of The Wolverine (2013). We see him in his wheelchair. The post-credits scene when Logan was traveling to another country, He's intercepted by Magneto and Charles.
