Things that frustrate us all

^^^
^^
it sounds terrifying to have to manage that! hug to you both.

Our hot water heater has been slowly leaking onto the basement floor for two weeks. We bought one from Home depot but they had to order one with a warranty longer than 6 years. The first one arrived damaged and they've lost the tracking of the other. I've been shop-vaccuuming water out of the basement for what seems forever and we've been running the dehumidifyer for as long. Would be very pleased to take a shower or run a dishload without worrying it will be the last until the new heater shows up.

@Scribble , I started out on NPH and Regular (the types sold at Walmart). They're biosynthetics as opposed to analogs. It was the only option when I was a kid, as the insulin analogs Humalog and Lantus were only just being released. I switched to those in college. I'd never want to go back. I remember referring to NPH as "Not Particularly Helpful". It infuriates me (and I've written extensively) about the pricing of insulin. It's a prime example of the U.S. disastrous and corrupt healthcare system.

There's another frustration, to put it mildly.

I also take Victoza, which is a type 2 injectable, but there's a new trend of treating type 1s with some type 2 meds and I find Victoza useful.

Victoza is the one! Thanks! My mom didn't find it helpful. I'm not sure if they have that little disclaimer at the bottoms of their commercials, too, but they may not understand the mechanics of why their med works and if that's the case, I have a feeling it helps your body utilize the insulin you have in it, whether that's a Type 1 body or Type 2. The difference, of course, being that Victoza would not be helpful to a Type 1 without an external source of insulin.

I used to take Novolog (Humalog before that) and Lantus, but I discovered that half-way through the year I hit the so-called "doughnut hole" and they end up costing more money than I get per month. Those, and I took Invokana, but same thing...something like $900/month for Invokana. Or was it more? I don't know. I may have put a mental block on the amount.

Until a couple of days ago I started taking Metformin, as well, but I only had a 90-day supply for that and it was from a pre-op doctor that I had to see in a pinch before my last toe surgery revision. It seemed to help, somewhat.

I really, really, really need to find another PCP (GP).

My dad's diabetes type 2 medication was priced so high when he was in the doughnut hole that my mom had to practically beg for some samples a few times. Luckily they usually had enough to help out.

@Scribble , I'm not sure how Victoza works beyond what you wrote, but I do know it also affects the brain. I actually take it because I have a history of anorexia, and of all things it helps control the eating disorder. So, way off label in my case.

I could probably use those in other parts of my house but I will have just about as much furniture and storage as I'll be able to fit in my teensy room. :(
I understand, but from a psychological pov a bedroom ought to be a place where you feel utterly comfortable, not just a place where you store your body for the night.
With type 1, even taking great pains doesn't always lead to success. I ended up having some radishes with hummus, hit a high of 174 around 6am and corrected, but I'm still adjusting to a new insulin and my sensitivity seems to be fluctuating rapidly depending on whether or not I'm on my period.
Yes, hormones seem to be far closer connected to blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity than originally thought. There's a lot of research on that topic going on at the moment.
Plus: between 3 and 6 am the liver sets free large amounts of glucose so that we get energy for waking up. When your blood sugar was low in the evening (hummus is very low carb, usually), your liver might have exaggerated a bit.

My argh-moment of the day is something propably everyone is familiar with: I woke up believing it to be Saturday when in fact it's Friday and I have to work. Far from being a catastrophy but a 9.5 on the disappointment scale.

This isn't a full on frustration more a curiosity, sort of an irritation. Why do couples say 'we're' pregnant?
Because they think it's cute. Either that or they honestly don't know what "pregnant" means.

Migraines with aftershocks. Thank God for legalized marijuana...
I have on-again, off-again abdominal pain due to a chronic small intestine inflammation (I've seen two gastroenterologists and had a bunch of tests and we still don't know what's causing it). Is cannabis good for that type of pain? I've been considering it now that the stuff's legal here in California.

I'm on a CGM so my sugar wasn't too low at first (not low enough for the liver to produce glucose). My problem seems to be the dawn phenomenon. One thing I miss about a pump was setting a higher bolus rate for those hours. I just haven't figured out the rhythms with the new insulins yet. At fist, when I was taking the Tresiba at nigh, I was getting severe hypos at around 6-8am. I switched the Tresiba to the morning so the peak coincides with dinner time, but it's leaving me uncovered for the dawn phenom.
Hummus actually has a good amount of carbs (a few spoonfuls on veggies will bring you to 10-20g. The combo of carb, fat, and protein are ideal for having a more stable overnight impact.
I just need to learn these new insulins. I've been trying splitting the dose and taking some in the evening, but haven't got it quite worked out yet.]

Note that, being sensitive to insulin, protein also has an affect on my sugars and I bolus for protein at about 40% what I would carbs, so I'm adding up the grams of carbs plus 40%protien to get the predicted affect on BG.

I'm not sure, scotpens.

I bought everything I need to install a closet rod in my closet except for any mounting hardware! :censored:

Yes, I just bought the damned rod. I did get a couple of shelf supports, but those ain't helpin' with my hanger rod!

Back to the store in a while.

I believe in reformation and redemption. Lord knows I've reformed myself over the years though I probably have some ways to go before I'm redeemed.

It pisses me off when people continue to punish others after they've shown signs of changing their thinking or ways, not only for their past deeds but every single minor transgression that most people would get away with, with no issue from anyone.

I truly believe in positive feedback and this tough love thing (or tough hate, as the case may be) just won't win anyone over. I'm not saying that everyone that shows any signs of evolving will do so, fully, but I do believe in nurturing good behavior and beliefs, not punishing anytime something goes slightly wrong or someone may not have certain terminology right.

Ignorance can be cured and there are a lot of ignorant people out there that have not been taught. Willful ignorance is called stupidity and cannot be cured. Those that show willful ignorance with no signs of changing their thinking deserve all the ridicule they get, but once someone shows that they're able to grow beyond what they've been taught in the past, I believe is admirable, even if they're not all the way there yet.

My tuppence.

When you do everything to help someone get their shit together and they’re completely ungrateful about it. I’m so tired of trying to help people who are struggling. It all comes back to slap me in the face eventually.

No good deed goes unpunished I guess.

That's what I'm trying to do every day in my profession. Some people are awfully dependent, struggle with even easy things to do while refusing to even follow simple rules. They keep on complaining how bad the world really is. That's when I'm glad to be back from work, getting to chat you with like-minded people!

I was thinking last night about how much my own POV has changed in the last decade. This BB has actually been a large part of that. I was raised by extremely fundamental Christians. I knew what I thought I believed in and was surprised when people here didn’t agree with my clearly superior opinions. A lot of posters here patiently and carefully explained their experiences opinions and points of view. And they had charts. Gawd they had charts. And facts and studies and links to a thousand articles written by experts in their fields.

Tl;dr - I’m humbled amazed and grateful to so many of you for sharing your experiences and points of view.
