[WARNING: This thread is full of Discovery Season 2 spoilers! —Your Friendly Neighborhood Mod]

    Hello!
So, simple, alot of talk about a Pike series, Been some heres and theres of what kind of ideas/stories could it cover if it was a Series/Mini series/mini movie series.. What would you like it to cover?

You have the main trio of Pike, #1, and Spock.. So you need a Doctor, a Chief Engineer, a navigator, Communications.
I personally would like to introduce Robert April and his wife Sarah, Admiral Nogura, other B listers from Tos/movie era.

I wouldn't mind seeing a different mix of the big 7. Does it even need to be 7? Can we get by with 6?

Let's see... DISCO... Michael, Tilly, Stamets, Saru... guess you could count Lorca/Pike as main characters. Spock was season 2 only. The rest were really secondary characters, right? I mean, even Hugh was gone and, when he was there, he was more secondary than primary.

Does Communications need to be one of the main characters? Navigation was a rotating chair in TOS until Chekov showed up. If you want to list the big 7 from the first season, it's more like Rand's spot was replaced by Chekov. DISCO only seemed to reveal the chief medical officer in the finale. I don't think we've seen the chief engineer, yet. (Both of these are among the pet-peeves/dislikes I have for DISCO. Stamets and Hugh are/were not the department heads but their roles have been to do what we saw department heads do in previous versions.)

What if we have Pike, Spock, Una, Colt... after that I dunno. Pike and Boyce were tight so we probably should have a Boyce. Unless he left between Cage and "now." That take away a close dynamic relationship for Pike.

Well the elephant in the room is explaining how Colt turned into an alien, so that's one that would have to be definitely addressed in any Pike series. Maybe a flashback episode showing the maiden voyage of the Enterpise with April in command and Pike as first officer.

Of course if it follows Discovery's example, there wouldn't be any individuals stories like a 'Space Seed' or a 'Balance of Terror'. Just one season long 'red angle' type arc with one episode connecting to the next and no individual episodes standing out as memorable.

They would need to address Pike now being invulnerable due to the time wizard's curse.

The way it was used in "Such Sweet Sorrow" pt. 2 was a head scratcher.

I'd love an episode where in some sort of time travel escapade, Pike and Spock are somehow watching Kirk and Spock watching footage from Talos IV. They can use whole scenes from The Menagerie and save a lot of money.

Seeing how much Boyce was in the cage, he has to be there, or just a line on how he retired maybe??
How about a Tellerite chief engineer? that would be fun the converstaions with the crew :)... oh female telerite!
Andorian chief of security? maybe comunications?
( I just want to find out more about Andorians and especiallly Telerites.. Founding member and we know less about them than Kelpians.. just saying)
Maybe a catian? ( thats alot of make up.. but maybe not since it would be less than a kelpian's)
A Deltan counselor would be.. interesting :)
An Ithanite ( the short copper skinned one from Journey to Babel.. get some dwarfs and the like some screen time! :))
an Elaysian if you wanted to show somebody that needed a chair to get around
or a Hermate, if you wanted to delve into Pan-sexual stories
(Basically, invent an alien to tell a modern story)

If anyone is interested in a Pike series then I suggest checking out the Star Trek Early Voyages comic book series from the 90's, it features the original 60's look of the pilot, the incident on Rigel VII, adventures post 'The Cage', fleshing out existing characters from the pilot, and filling out gaps in the crew with original characters. The series has been reprinted by IDW, and Eaglemoss, and the old single issues shouldn't be hard to find.

I actually liked the idea of how a dark fate set in stone is making the character act to enforce it by his own decissions in spite of knowing it. Reminded me of Oedipus and other greek tragedies. Very philosophical and a lot to think about.

    Story ideas, let’s see:
Young Lieutenant Kirk becoming the man we know.
    ISS Enterprise, Captain Pike.
Two plot lines - adventure of the week + ongoing cast story arcs.
    Sybok.
Setting up TOS like ENT s4, eg visiting Coridan.
    Ongoing antagonists: Orion syndicate.

They made a big point of Pike's inability to die- to the extent that he survived a torpedo explosion from only a few feet away that took out the entire section of the ship he was standing in.

That would need to be addressed in an ongoing series.

Seconding the Tellarites and Andorians thing. Really want to know more about them. Caitians too, OF COURSE.

My only other hope for the series is that they stay away from established TOS/Discovery events. 5 year mission into deep, unknown space - new planets, aliens (other than the crew obviously) and weird space rays only.

This still confuses me as well. The only explanation that makes sense is that the time crystal predicts with incredible accuracy what is most likely to happen to you, rather than showing a definite unchangeable vision, and so Pike isn't literally invincible. I guess for this explanation to work, you have to assume the timekeeper wizard guy was just being melodramatic when he said the bit about how the vision will definitely occur.

Well it was not like Pike was in the explosion, he was behind a bulkhead door and that door did not breach. So 'something' made it so the door did not breach?

Maybe I'm thinking he would be like Captain Jack from Doctor who who always come back to life and cant die. LOL

To be honest I don't think the producers were trying to show he was indestructible. I think it's more of case of lazy writing to have him behind a bulkhead and get shielded from the blast, while the explosion takes out a huge chunk of the forward saucer. Yes, it does not make any sense, but I think its just lazy writing.

His accident is a fixed point in the timeline since he took the crystal. They toyed with this in the finale but wimped out of having him stand there and guarantee with torpedo be a dud because it cannot go off without killing him.

Pretty sure there's a superhero series in there, somewhere:lol:

From what I can tell, this discussion seems to be loaded with Discovery Season 2 spoilers. I’ll remind everyone that the time threshold for open discussion of spoilers outside the Discovery forum is six months. For the purposes of this thread, I’ve added a spoiler tag and a warning in the first post.

Harkening back to the discussion about lowering the stakes for Discovery, I'd love to see a story arc about the Enterprise serving as a heavy cruiser for a while - sent off to a freshly colonized region to solve all kinds of problems that can generally be found in a newly established settlement; establishing and securing supply routes, helping out law enforcement (mostly with pirates and smugglers), and of course to deter potential enemies from attacking before the defenses are fully built up. Not necessarily as a story arc, but rather as a hook for the actual arc of the season.

For example, the Enterprise could be sent to a newly colonized, remote sector in response to the Orion Syndicate establishing a foothold there and pirates constantly harassing everyone. It would at first seem an easy assignment, ruffling some feathers and the like, but it would eventually turn out that it's actually a plot by one of the larger Klingon houses to both thwart the Federation's advances in the region (not unlike the quadrotriticale fiasco ten years later) and weaken L'Rell's rule at the same time, by falsely implicating Klingon government support so soon after the war. The arc villain could be yet another backstabbing member of the House of Kor, and at the end of the arc, the leadership of the house could finally fall to the titular man himself, taking it on a more loyalist, aristocratic military/glory path.

Hmm... now that I've written it down, I'm not sure it sounds as good on paper than it did in my head. Especially after shoehorning Kor in there. And I know many people wouldn't want to touch Klingon internal politics again with a ten-kellicam pole. Not to mention my other insane pipe dream about there being another criminal outfit in the region at odds with the Orions and the Klingons... led by a surviving Captain Killy, who was captured in the war and then escaped from Rura Penthe with a bunch of other lowlifes some time after Discovery's second season.

So they'd look like TNG-era Klingons, basically?

Dozens of adventures from Captains Log : Pike and the Marvell comic series although I don't know those can be used. The early voyages of the Enterprise are a mystery to most people and this is an exciting topic of conversation. A season long multi adventure followed by another season culminating with the hand off to Kirk and Pikes accident would suffice. He is quite the hero in Trek Lore. Why wouldn't ya?

A Short Trek from Pike's POV in the wheelchair, trapped in his own mind communicating with the world with a couple of beeps.

That would probably too dark for Trek, actually.
