Next to zero.. unless they pull an epic clandestine filming operation with the bare minimum crew it would be impossible for Sean Bean to appear in a circle of a 100km around the filming location or even Ireland when they filmed season 8 without the rumor mill exploding.

Much the same as with Kit Harington after the season 6 finale when he was spotted on set or hanging around in Dublin.. it was the worst kept secret at the time that Jon Snow will return for season 7 (he coudn't even change his hair style, something he apparently immediately did after season 8 filming was done).

What was the point of John Snow's "death" anyway... We already knew that the Lord of Light can bring people back...

I've always seen Jon as one of the only characters that fully appreciates how dangerous the White Walkers are. Hell, most people didn't believe in them up until last season. Even though Dany has seen them and lost a dragon to The Night King, she's still expending a lot of her energy asserting herself as the rightful Queen. Sansa is wrapped up in keeping the North an independent state. I thought their conversation re: what happens afterwards reflects their under appreciation of what's coming, as in, this isn't just an invading army - this is Death itself. Jon doesn't underestimate how close they are to oblivion. He knows they need *every* resource - which is why he bent the knee - and even then it might not be enough.

This is why I'm hoping at the conclusion of next week's battle, anyone who has survived will have had any provincial attitudes knocked out of them.

LOL, THESE people? It will take a lot more than death to know provincial attitudes out of these characters.

Yeah...you're right. It was just a fool's hope.

    Bless the baby...

I think the Night King will attack the Landing with his Dragon, then move northwards to surprise Winterfell from behind.

Bran wargs into the Undead Dragon--I think that's the plan. But goes mad from the attempt.

You are probably right. But I hope they reverse surprise us by having everyone survive.

I can see this happening. Kings Landing would have plenty of notice if the Army of the Dead were marching on them, but a surprise attack by The Night King on his dragon would completely take them off guard. Perhaps he wants everyone at the party and thinks the attack will draw Cersei into the fight. If she gets a first hand taste of *just* The Night King ... to say nothing of his whole army, she'd be foolish to leave the North to fend for itself.

I'd had the same thought. If he does it, it'll fry his mind.

Not sure if the Night King is into strategy or surprise attacks. He seems more like a brute force kind of guy.

Perhaps, unless you subscribe to the theory that the Night King planned for Daenerys to attack his legion beyond the Wall so he could capture Viserion, which helps explain how he conveniently had a massive anchor chain to retrieve the dragon from the frozen depths.

Not to mention his body was returned as bones only in that little box that Littlefinger delivered to Kat. If Eddard does get resurrected by the NK, he’ll just be a walking skeleton like we’ve seen many times before without any recognizable face. Now, Kat on the other hand...

To end his service to the Night's Watch. He only swore to serve until his death, and he fulfilled that oath.

Unless David and Dan's goal is to deliberately make people angry by killing off every person that is morally good, I really don't see the Army of the Dead storyline lasting past next week's episode based on narrative structure.

Episode 4 is probably going to be a "regrouping" episode detailing the aftermath of Episode 3, Episode 5 is probably going to deal with fighting Cersei, and Episode 6 is probably going to be an extended denouement that wraps everything up.

The places my love of GoT has taken me to :) I just looked at the video about how difficult it is to cast obsidian ( dragonglass). Maybe Gendry’s secret ingredient was dragonsfire?

Yes, that is also a possibility but probably even more dangerous.

Magic! His secret ingredient is magic!

While it's not highlighted in the series at all, the Maesters of the Citadel in A Dance with Dragons note the sudden rise in magic in the world as the dragonglass candles become lit again, suggesting a correlation to Daenerys' dragons growing in strength and size, along with other magical events.

And the Pyromancers of Qarth also noticed an increase in the ease in which they cast their spells. Wildfire destructive yield also became more potent once the dragons were born.

Does anyone else feel Emilia Clarke is miscast as Danaerys? I feel this is really the only real misfire of the show.

She's great at that quiet strength look she mastered in season 1 as she was passed around from Viserys to Drogo (which is how I expect she won the role), but as her character has grown her flaws as an actress have become more apparent. She's not terrible, but she is unremarkable.

Example: Her face should have conveyed so much emotion when she told Sam she murdered his father and brother. A tinge of guilt, a resolute show of strength, a slight quiver of regret...something. But there's just nothing there. She's DOA regurgitating her lines. And when she tries to give these big sweeping speeches, it's not very convincing at all. She also makes Dany seem dumber and more angry than she is written.

It's a shame too. Imagine an actress of Lena Headey's caliber in that role, dang.
