A flare for the dramatic (flaunting oneself)

Sylvia and Korob in "Catspaw" certainly had a flair for the dramatic. All those Gothic trappings were a deliberate attempt to frighten and intimidate the humans, based on a rather archaic notion of what scared human beings.

I'm not sure how frightening the Gothic surroundings would be for Humans in general. I myself have thought of building a Star Trek TOS influenced mansion if ever rich enough, with the Rigel VII fortress exterior and internal rooms based on Trelane's place on Gothos, the "Catspaw" castle, Prefect Jaris's house in "Wolf in the Fold", and Flint's mansion in "Requiem for Methuselah".

Curiously, I can't think of equally desirable rooms in homes of characters in later Star Trek productions.
