Spock, in The Voyage Home, speaks of dilithium recrystallization as being theoretical.

Based on what Po does in Discovery, are we to take it that he was simply referring to the method that they were forced to employ....the high-energy photons from the nuclear reactor?

Otherwise, Discovery would contradict The Voyage Home, because Spock would have known that dilithium recrystallization was not just theoretical.

Discovery will be wiped from history, never having existed. Tilly would never have met Po, and Federation will never learn that Xaheans developed that technology.

Xaheans did not developed that tech. Po developed recrystalization technology and until episode 2x13 only Tilly knew that. And only Po know technical details.

Spock is delightfully pedantic, if he never saw dilithium being recrystalized (and presumably the Xaheans had yet to fully disclose the process by TVH), then it would remain “theoretical”.

How would the terminology work in the real world? Scientist A claims to have made a breakthrough, but doesn't show how to do it. There may or may not be a demonstration. Without proof the everything is happening as the inventor claims, is the process still theoretical?

Isn't recrystalization commonplace in the late 24th century?

Yes, but presumably they're using Spock's method from TVH. With refinement - Geordi says they can now recrystallize it whilst still in the reaction chamber.

You're still worried about contradictions at this point?! :guffaw:

Sort of....just following it as best I can and trying to figure out where they're going with all of this. :D

The idea that Discovery will just be wiped out of the timeline as if it never existed just doesn't seem likely, although not impossible, of course.

Spock talked about cloaking devices being theoretical in "Balance of Terror"

Discovery's pick and choosing what they're keeping and what they're ignoring.

Po built some kind of high energy conduit directly from the reactor to the cradle, interfacing the Spore drives energy matrix too. Nobody knew what she was doing exactly. I doubt someone immediately ran to a warp core and tried plugging a crystal in the moment they heard about it.

If anyone on Discovery even bothered telling anyone, not wanting to expose Xahea and their race to everyone.

    Sounds like wishful thinking.

I think you will be disappointed, at least I hope so.

I stopped worrying about them in 1966. Otherwise the idea of Vulcan being conquered and the tombstone of James R. Kirk would keep me up at night

People should surely realise by now that Spock is a pathological liar. Vulcan has no moon, no record of a mutiny, cloaking devices are only theoretical...
