Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - Teaser Trailer

I would rather not see Palpatine return in any form, as it would pretty much make Vader's ROTJ attack lose half of its meaning (yes, part of it was Vader's redemption/balancing the Force, but killing the evil behind it all was as much an important part).

They've treated almost all the original trilogy characters shabbily so I don't think they would have a problem digging up Vader to crap on him as well.

That being said, I am intrigued by the return of the Emperor. There's been speculation for a while he would return, though one rumor was a flashback with Matt Smith playing him. So I wasn't that shocked to hear his cackle. Instead I felt more like this is desperation to get the old fans excited and back again. Its also a tacit admission that Kylo Ren or Hux aren't that strong as villains if they actually bring the Emperor back and make him the ultimate big bad in this film.

The trailer itself was well-made. I liked the scene with Rey jumping, I liked seeing Billy Dee Williams as Lando again, but for the most part I still don't care about the sequel heroes or the stakes here. If I go see it, it will be to see what they do with Lando (hopefully they won't disrespect the character), Luke, Leia, and Palpatine.

The subtitle does feel like a little rebuke of "The Last Jedi" and all that end of the Skywalker saga stuff, though I'm guessing the most recent bandying of that phrase was Disney setting things up for a misdirection.

The first part of the trailer with Rey reminded me of this:

Hopefully this movie brings radical changes. While I liked the first two a lot, TFA was just a little too comfortable and safe, and TLJ still didn't quite take things far enough.

Um... TLJ killed almost everyone in the resistance, and literally went out of its way to to subvert fandom expectations. How far did you want it to take it???

I never said it was a spoiler.
I just thought it would have been nice to keep the surprise for the end.

Endgame apparently did it as well for the first couple days, and then they added the title after.

It's specifically the end of the "Skywalker Saga".

That is until someone "Halloween's" and "Terminator's" the Disney movies to tell the new vision of the Skywalker Saga. Someday anything not made by Lucas will be replaced and then they will go after Lucas stuff. Since Disney will own the world by then this means literally. Expect removal trucks to show up and take away your dvd's,merc, books etc. in order to be filled by new official canon.:)

I watched the trailer, and it was ok. I hope they don't undermine Return of the Jedi because ROTJ was the first Star Wars film I saw and it still has a special place in my heart.

The beginning reminded me of something Dante/Nero would do from Devil May Cry. Just needs the music. :)

TLN was a weird one for me, I went in with high hopes after thinking TFA had got the ball rolling nicely.

I left the theatre thinking it was a decent movie but didn't really think about it much over the next few days

Then 3 days later another friend asked if I wanted to go so I said ok and that time I watched the movie the cringe moments really stood out and I felt like it dragged out.

I'm glad JJ is back, the original star wars were not dramatic masterpieces and if JJ does one thing well it's big fun movies which is all I really want from star wars at this point

Well, he's back, so get used to it.

In an interview following the panel, Abrams officially confirmed Ian's return to the Saga and his being part of TROS' cast.

The teaser seems to quickly walk back a couple of things Last Jedi did. Luke says that they have passed on all that they know despite him not really teaching Rey much of anything, and Kylo Ren puts his helmet back together. I expected them to revert some ideas to an earlier setting, but I'm surprised it seems so...obvious.

After 7 (okay but not great) and 8 (I really kind of hate it), I'm really ambivalent about this one. Right now I'm thinking I can't be bothered seeing it in the cinema, but a later trailer will probably trick me into it. ;)

Wow, that trailer is a deep throat of nostalgia.

It's a perfect response to TLJ. It's not undoing the saga, it's building upon it. I'll be there opening day.

No, it doesn't.

There has been a time jump between the events of TLJ and TROS, and Rey has clearly been trained off-screen, likely by Luke and possibly other Force Ghosts.

Also, the person repairing that helmet is not Ben.

Damn! Palpatine's laugh! I was feeling "meh" about Episode IX after The Last Jedi. But, this teaser has me excited. Palpatine is my all-time favorite villain, and if he's back, then holy shit! It kind of makes sense that Sidious would find a way to survive, seeing as how "Everything is proceeding as planned/has happened to my design." Vader chucking him off a rail should have been super easy to "foresee." Also, it makes more sense that Palpatine would be behind the rise of the First Order, instead of that chump Snoke that nobody had ever heard of before.

I don't see how. Rey has the Jedi texts and its been at least a little bit of time between TLJ and this film.

I don't think they'll revert as much as we think-or in some instances hope, depending on the fandom circle.
