Just like last week, I am trying to watch the episode, but having constant buffering issues and really low resolution. It'll probably be fifteen minutes into the episode before it acts normally. Seriously, this happens waaay more with CBSAA than any other streaming service I use, even the free ones!

I'm guessing an unexpected surge in demand? CBS has a history of failing to adequately anticipating how popular this series would turn out to be.

I'm a moron and have no idea how this shit works, but could it be that a lot of people (in this case obsessed Trek fans) all trying to stream the episode at once causes the problem? Maybe other shows aren't as "in demand" the moment they drop?

It's so weird, I never have any issues. Maybe once every 10 episodes the resolution starts off shitty. That's about it.

I am so looking forward to how Discovery hides away for 1000 years. As for a Pike series. Ever since I first saw the introduction of Pike this season. Ive been wanting a series based on him and the Enterprise. My desire was met with not so warm words from some fellow members on some earlier S2 threads. But time will tell on how Discovery ends or maybe continues in the distant 1000 years/ S3.
Solid 10, -1 Burnham, -1 Sarek (intergalactic mind melds) = 8
Again anticipation level on high for finale.

I could be wrong, but it seems like there's a big difference if you sign up for the version with ads and without ads. Basically everyone I've seen complaining to date has had the ad version.

Good point. Mine has always been without ads.

On another note: it was cool to use a new Twilight Zone episode as a chaser tonight! I didn't get on here until after both shows. Fun night!

I have plenty of ads, and have had no issues. Except for when I accidentally clicked it off, and had to sit through about 12 commercials before I could find my place again because the app decided not to save my place. But that was my own fault.

That was excellent. Full marks. This episode had a gravitas appropriate to the circumstance, and was deeply respectful to the characters of Discovery and the franchise as a whole.

The Enterprise looked great. If someone could turn down the eye-level lights and do something about the mirrored floors it would be perfect. The visual clutter makes it hard to look at, but the actual design of the bridge and the turbolift was amazing. Definitely a fan of how they updated it, aside from the minor nitpicks.

I did laugh a bit at Sarek and Amanda showing up just to have a little heart-to-heart while a guy who desperately wants to acquire Discovery was chasing them and had a head-start. Space and time mean nothing to family!

The character moments and goodbyes were all excellent (save one). Everyone got a moment to show how important the situation is and where it's all leading (as far as they know). Only the Tyler/Burnham scene completely fell flat for me. They simply don't have the chemistry that the writing assumes they have; they fell in love during a time loop that was erased and the show has never managed to make up for that since then.

Po just seems shoehorned in, as there's no particular reason any of her skills were crucial to magicking up the solution any more than either Reno or Stamets could have, but she's an interesting character to have around. I just hope that if she does become a persistent member of the crew they give her some actual genius instead of just Informed-Attribute genius.

None of these little problems detracted from what made it great, thankfully. I've become desensitized to a lot of these little stupidities, I think...

This really felt like a second pilot, that somehow had an entire season to set it up. Now everything's teed up, we'll see if they can make the shot next week. A lot of how well this whole season lands depends on whether this finale (which I strongly suspect will be a monster cliff-hanger) resolves or utilizes the plots they've been dangling. I'm glad this episode gave them the time it needed to breathe and put everything in place without too much of the usual shell game.

My favorite line of the episodes
"I thought there were no bad ideas?" - Emperor Georgiou
And then Cornwell of all people says "that's a bad idea." I'm sorry, but after last season's finale, she isn't allowed to judge. But at least she's learned her lesson at taking strategy advice from a genocidal psychopathic dictator.

Spock needs to get back to the Enterprise to save it, transporters won't work, so he puts himself in a torpedo?
Reno is going to be the one to do something about that torpedo.
It's got to be the only reason she sees it in the reveal by the time crystal.

BTW:
Spock apparently ends up in a shuttlecraft.
We see that in next weeks preview.

My favorite parts of the episode were the crew writing letters to their families and then the farewell scene on the Bridge.

I loved the updated version of the Enterprise. The pic from the trailer last week didn't do it justice. They successfully blended the TOS Style with the DSC Style.

I expected Control to show up in the episode. I'm glad it didn't and that the episode more-or-less took place in real time. More time to focus on the characters.

Loved seeing the Enterprise and Discovery side-by-side.

Georgiou had all the best lines.

Then there's Tilly. Long time, no see! And Po is back! I have no clue what she'll do on Discovery, but it's not the normal type of regular you'd see on a Star Trek series if she stays.

And speaking of staying: I knew Nhan would stick around!

I can understand Culber wanting to go to the Enterprise. Different surroundings. A fresh start. And I'm glad he made peace with Stamets.

This should be a 9. The Enterprise would make it a 10 but the "lining up with canon" lines make me cringe. So I'm going with a 9.5 as my rating.

EDIT: Vulcan never looked better.

They missed a perfectly good opportunity when Burnham told Sarek "you took me in even though you already had a son" instead of "you took me in even though you already had sons".

It would have been such a subtle line that Discovery wouldn't have gotten in trouble with the movie rights folks.

We needed at least a passing mention of Sybok.

I gave this one an 8. Lots of talk and feels. Those were well done. They really took the relationships that were built over the season and the series, and made the most out of them. However, not as much moving the story forward. For me, to get up to a 9 or 10, both of which are very rare, it's needs to be a perfect blend of characters, relationships, and plot all working together. This episode didn't quite do that, but it was still a great episode.

It really feels inevitable that Discovery is moving forward in time. They've done their final farewells, and I don't think it's a fake out. However, I suspect there will be a twist and they don't end up in the time frame they're expecting--which will be revealed at the end of the next episode.
