Hey, I never noticed that before....

Just rewatched "The Man Trap" and was surprised at the variety of Starfleet uniforms on the Enterprise. As well as the traditional yellow/red/blue, there were the uniforms of "The Cage" used on background people in corridor scenes, and a green jumpsuit.

 

A similar thing happened in the movie era. When Harve Bennett wanted a whole new officer's uniform for The Wrath of Khan, they saved money by re-using a lot of The Motion Picture costumes for the background "trainee crew" characters. They dyed the TMP jumpsuits red to be compatible with the new color scheme.

That's an old catch like Kirk's change of uniform in charlie X! The duplicate Kirk fawning over the transporter controls was more evident that his emblem was missing than the earlier scenes with Kirk on the planet and with Scotty in the chamber!

Also, the indicator lights near the main viewer have yet to be bordered in red.

Also weird - McCoy doesn't have a phaser. He should.

 

Why?

Of course, he may have a Type 1 tucked in his pants, and Kirk may have two of those. This would be a tad inconvenient when the surviving guns begin exploding, though... But McCoy isn't Starfleet's first line of defense, especially against completely lifeless planets such as the one here. Sure, he sometimes packs heat. But he seldom uses a gun - and when he does, he fumbles ("Return of the Archons" or ST2:TWoK). Perhaps his friends have learned to discourage him from carrying?

IIRC there are a couple of other instances where Bones beams down without a phaser. All Our Yesterdays, perhaps.

 

He's a doctor, not a mercenary!

 

He leaves things behind on planets. And hobos who were supposed to be ancestors of famous people disrupt themselves in the 30s when he visits. He has lost all phaser privileges.

 

Heh. But he takes phasers on many missions after that. That's what bugs. If he had a "no phaser" policy, which would make no sense but would probably be in alignment with some FauxRoddenberryesque vision, then they had ample opportunity to tell us that and be consistent about it.

 

....or they ran out of one color of glitter.

Because de-materializing is a different process than re-materializing?

 

All these decades of watching Star Trek, having seen City on the Edge of Forever probably 20 times, and I never noticed the radiation hazard sign on the front of the apartment building where Kirk and Spock have their "flop".

My wife and I were watching it on NetFlix last night and I noticed it, at the 38:00 minute mark, just above and to the right of the front door of the building on the establishing shot before it cuts inside to Kirk and Spock. Hilarious since "atomic power is years away" as we know, and Kirk earlier states.

My original season set DVDs are packed away so I can't check. Was it always there? Was it inserted for a laugh when they remastered it? Crazy.
