Might want to take a look at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets You can make it public-read-only and won't have to copy paste everything everytime you update columns or rows
Finished tinkering around. I can live with the way I have everything listed now. A voice has been given to the people who vote but might not post much. And it's interesting to see what they have to say.
IMO - "If Memory Serves" at 9.1 is still too low a score for probably the BEST post TOS Star Trek episode made to date.
Somehow, I think the insanely high ratings for the mid-season finale and mid-season premiere in Season 1 balance out the lower ratings from early on.
https://www.ratingraph.com/serie/star_trek_discovery-1451/ IMDb ratings as comparison. Some similarities, but also differences.
Trending where? Google? The Twitters? I'm not trolling or anything. This actually seems interesting, but I'm just really honestly pretty stupid and I'm not too sure what I'm looking at here.
Trending in the forum. Now that I have all this information put together, we can dissect it and compare it to elsewhere. Like IMDB for instance, like Cake linked to. Overall, I think it's good to see what people are more interested in and less interested in when it comes to the series and what people here think who aren't as vocal or are just lurking.
Small observation Is it valid to rate Short Treks alongside 50 minute plus episodes ? Surely its best to have the shorts in a sub section to compare to each other 15 minutes of screen time compared to 50 minutes is not a fair comparison, if you get my drift. I am also an amoeba on the Trek knowledge scale so, maybe also a little dim
That's why I differentiated Short Treks in the list of ratings by identifying them as what they were. And why when I was looking at the patterns I observed, I'd separate Short Treks from what I noticed sometimes. i.e. "If you don't count Short Treks... " But other times they supported a larger point I was trying to make. When I do the Season Average for Season 2, I'll leave out Short Treks and do another average for them. But I wanted to list everything that was related to Discovery.
Thank you for the valuable information. My favorite episode by far was Memory Serves followed by New Eden which felt like classic Trek. I appreciate all the work involved.
The median for Context is 9, same as Forest and the MU arc for the first season - the average seems to have been seriously dragged down by a bunch of outlying negative votes.
I don't know about what ALL Disco fans seem to like, but I know my girlfriend likes "If I can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman. Sorry, I'll grab my tricorder on the way out.
Did you, by any chance, get a bit of a 'Miri' vibe from that episode? I like 'Miri', from TOS, and 'New Eden' had some echoes of it, for me....
What I like is Pike! Remember how there was a Breaking Bad and it didn't seem like a show could get much better? Then the Genius Known As Gilligan created Better Call Saul and the interesting thing is he made it work creating new characters in such a way that you look forward to seeing BCS link up with BB. I realize its difficult to find a writing team such as the GKAG but this is what this fan wants from Discovery. So I want a pre Kirk program (Discovery) that seamlessly links the adventures of Pike and crew to the handover to Kirk. This what I was led to believe. Why else start before Kirk unless the intention is to come in from behind and reboot Star Trek? I believe your expert poll shows that Pikecentric Episodes are fan favorites. I also believe CBSAA subscription rates are up and growing faster than expected. So, thank you for your poll and please continue your good work. I am so excited waiting for the climax Thursday night and making myself crazy trying to guess what the future holds for Discovery.
Updated stats to reflect the second season as a whole. I didn't include Short Treks in the average. Looks like "The Red Angel" and "Perpetual Infinity" were a rough patch for some people. It also looks like the end of S2 was better received than the end of S1, but I didn't need a calculator to tell me that. I screwed up on the Median for "Context Is for Kings", so I fixed that. I also double-checked everything else to make sure there were no other mistakes. Overall, people rated the second season better than the first, but it wasn't a dramatic difference. It was a 7.8 for S1 versus an 8.0 for S2 the average. There was also less deviation this year in the ratings for each episode. The Highest 3 Rated S2 Episodes "If Memory Serves" "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II" "New Eden" The Lowest 3 Rated S2 Episodes “The Red Angel” “Perpetual Infinity” "Point of Light"
Special Thanks to @Commander Richard for including the polls in the episode threads that provided me with the raw data to make this possible!
