What were your first thoughts on 'Discovery'?

What was your first impression about this series?

I'm curious because I'm only few episodes in. I got Netflix, finally, and started few days ago.

I think it's too early for anyone to judge a series based on few episodes, but I think a Trek series starting with a war is a bit questionable. Then again, Federation hasn't always been in good terms with the Klingons so here's somekind of explanation for that. The war thing doesn't have to last the whole series or whole season. But, don't tell me how the story will continue, spoiler alert. :)

When compared to, for example TNG, I think Disco is too dark. How about more lights on the bridge so crew could see better which button to press. :)

And the lens flares.. there were some in the beginning, I wonder how that is going to end up, don't like it, at all.

My first impressions, complete crap. My second impressions, complete crap. I couldn't and will not ever accept season 1 as star trek. Season 2 is much better, most of the darkness is gone but it lingers and now and then shows its head.

I'm not going to write any spoilers but I doubt you will enjoy season 1 at all if you didn't like first few episodes. If I were you, I would totally forget about S1 and immediately move to S2.

I had to warm up to it. I was a bit more canon-oriented at first and uptight about certain things, but now I'm enjoying the ride. Some people will never warm up to it, and that's ok. But I think it's a good portrayal of the future from a 2019 perspective rather than a 1960s perspective. Not sure if you'll be able to avoid spoilers here, but enjoy!

My first thought was, "It's a reboot."

Then it something about awkward dialogue but liking that they were doing something different. That final shot of the admirals in the darkness, sentencing Michael to life imprisonment convinced me I was gonna like the show.

Literal first thought, when I saw it? "This is the best Star Trek in 20 years!"
The same. I was downright giddy at the thought of finally being able to watch Star Trek as it aired (we have always had to wait for a cable station to buy it and dub it which always only happened after a series got syndicated), and luckily, the two-part pilot didn't disappoint for me. Not only was I happy to be watching Star Trek but I actually liked it from the start.

My first impression? What a frigging mess.

And it still is, mostly. But like I've said elsewhere, I'm glad some people like it, it keeps Star Trek alive on TV.

My first thought during that first scene was to recheck the title of the show because I thought I must have been watching star wars..

I liked from the start and it made me interested in star trek again for the first time in about 10 years. I continued to enjoy it, I wouldn't be here talking about it if I didn't.

They don't have deserts in Star Trek?

They left their lightsabers on the ship

First impressions, hmm
Mid first season, yaldy
End first season, wtf ?
Start season two, okaaaaaay
Mid season two, losing it here
Now, coming out of a lull and looking promising again

Before I saw it I was really excited. New Trek set just before TOS, right up my ally. Upon watching season one I was massively disappointed and didn't care for this new direction Trek was headed in. I've yet to watch season two but I'll watch it once the season is up based on it's episodic nature.

Agreed. My thoughts were it wants to be in the JJverse but without the fun factor, and it won't give those Star Wars nods a rest. What I appreciated about TNG and the beginnings of DS9 were the show was different from what I'd seen before but internally they felt very Star Trek, but the stuff after goes through the motions but doesn't feel like Star Trek. Disco is patterned like a bad soap opera which also sh*ts on everything I loved about Star Trek.
