Captain Marvel (2019)

Roddenberry wasn't the enlightened wiseman some like to consider him. He was a creep when it came to women and he was known for a number of affairs. He did a lot of good, but he was still a very flawed man.
I always saw the portrayal of Zefram Cochrane in First Contact as analogous to Gene Roddenberry. Just a guy who dreams of dollar signs and an island filled with naked women who gained a larger-than-life reputation.

As I have heard from mostly reliable sources, he did sleep with almost every female cast or crew member on the series at least once. I don't know that there was a "casting couch" situation going on but he definitely was not faithful to his wife.

Either of them.

Apparently everyone who didn't have an orgasm over this movie has a motive. So tiresome really. I mean it was an okay movie from one of the least interesting creations in the Marvel stable. It was Thor quality but with Jude Law as the bit on the side and a really cool cat thingy.

Honestly, I thought the film was fine but not top tier Marvel. A solid B+.

However, I think it's a bit much to imply fans of it accusing others of having a motive for not loving it enough. There's no need to accuse when those review bombing a film they haven't seen made it pretty clear what their motives were, especially when they throw in terms like "SJW"s, "PC", "virtue signaling", "leftist agenda", etc.

Have Moore and Braga ever admitted to using Roddenberry as the basis for writing Cochrane in FC? I always found the parallels to be too amazing that it couldn't be the case.

I even like that in ENT we hear more bits of Cochrane post-FC basically telling tall tales to anyone within an ear shot, which Gene was known for.

No one is even implying it. Everyone has been clear who the problem is because they were happy to reveal themselves.

If people think Star Trek was sexiest (and scenes like that don't help), then they've never seen Gene Roddenberry's The Lieutenant was even worse. There's an episode of that show where the main character, Lt. Rice chases off a man who is trying to rape a woman. The woman is a teacher working secretly as a waitress as a club (it's the 60s so teachers weren't allowed to or something) and because she's worried about getting into trouble with her school, she falsely accuses Rice of trying to assault her. Rice is in legitimate legal trouble and not even his commanding officer can convince the woman to rescind her accusation. Who shows up to save Rice by browbeating the woman into telling the truth? THE ATTEMPTED RAPIST! Rice is cleared and THANKS the guy afterwards! I wish I was making this up but this actually passed as an episode of a TV show in 1963.

That's pretty terrible. Did the attempted rapist at lease turn himself in because he was feeling guilty for what he did?

:guffaw: Have you been reading this thread??

To be honest I only started participating in this thread roughly a week ago, and I didn't play catch up reading the entire thread before posting. Unless I skimmed them, I thought we were talking about the outrageous review bombers and MRA trolls at Rotten Tomatoes, twitter, etc, as opposed to people in this forum.

I only know kane_steel is one that comes off as those types. I recall him advocating DISCOVERY should have retained Pike's sexist attitude and that eliminating that might as well have been emasculating the character.

If you allow women on the bridge, are you even a man???

Was Gene a pill popper?

Cheap and legal speed, explained away a lot of bad behaviour in the mid 20th century.

"Explained" not justified.

I'm kind of starting to hope that Endgame ends with Thanos wiping the floor with all of the male Avengers, and then Captain Marvel gathers up Nebula, a resurrected Gamora, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, a resurrected Peggy Carter, Quake and May from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jessica Jones, and Wasp and they all kick Thanos's ass. It would be worth it just to see all of the MRA types heads explode.

Nebula is the one who reverses things in the Infinity Gauntlet comic.

She’s a very different person in the movies, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if they keep things broad strokes. That’s what they’ve done with her so far.

Which would make me very happy, because movie Nebula is a fave.

Oh, yeah. Nebula has been one of the breakout characters in the whole MCU for me. I'm really glad that they've focused on the relationship between Gamora and her.

I could see Nebula getting the final blow. Her reasons for killing him who isn't dust are the most setup. He tortured her, made her into a cyborg and killed her sister once they actually started to get along. It would mean more that way.
