Captain Marvel (2019)

You know you can't win a sensible debate with me so you resort to childish memes and name calling. Every time.

I agree that Captain Marvel isn't going to save the day. In fact I can see her coming in and getting beat in a fight maybe even in or near the first scene, which would kind of explain why it seems the world has had time to fall apart even after the message was sent. I think it might be like Hulk in the last movie were he gets beat and then Hulk is kind of neutralized for the rest of the movie but The character will still be a part of the adventure somehow in a small role.

I'm guessing maybe Spider-Man level use in "Civil War." Not only would her being the final means of winning be kind of suck in that this might be the last time we see Captain America and Iron Man and you got to assume one of them will be the key somehow but it would be like the biggest cliche possible because you can see them sort of setting it up but I think they are setting up a red herring instead. Granted Iron Man and Captain America would be kind of a cliche as well so may be they will throw everyone a loop and have Rocket somehow be the hero or Pepper Potts.

You weren't having one of those, it was a disjointed anti-SJW fueled rant. You call for just treating it like a normal, then go into that bullshit. The time it took me to find that gif was more effort than that deserved.

As usual it's not your opinion so you dismiss it. You are an SJW died in the wool so it's par for the course

ALIEN isn’t comparable because it wasn’t a long established nerd franchise like Marvel at the time it came out.

And the implication by some that Ripley was treated sexless must be blind.

What's the backwards rationalization for dismissing wonderwoman?

Oh she had feelings for a man so I guess it's that

Most white males nerds (at least those screaming on YouTube/podcasts) think of comics as “theirs”, so of course they’re lashing out when a different demographic is given a spotlight.

Which is sad because there's always been a female fanbase, they're just now being represented. There's a reason that Loki is getting a show and it's because every single woman loves Loki.

It never ceases to amaze me how anyone could use the term "SJW" unironically and expects to be taken seriously. I mean, it's a term made famous by Gamergators, and how is possible that a sane person wants to be associated in any way to those creeps is beyond me.

Or anyone that uses the term “virtue signaling”, as if they’re baffled that anyone would earnestly care about anyone but themselves.

Virtue signalling 100% exists. It's almost like a form of spiritual bypassing.

And there's a huge difference between social justice advocates and social justice warriors.

Social justice advocates actually make a difference in positive ways to underprivileged groups.

SJW's are an angry, tribal group who rally to a cause they have very little understanding of because it's a good way to never have to look in the mirror, and gives a built in projection target in anyone who isn't an SJW, who they can throw all their angry baggage onto.

SJW's are poorly educated on the issues they rally for/against and if called out on their lack of knowledge or the fact they personally haven't done anything to make a positive difference (posting on Facebook doesn't count) shut you down with accusations, name calling and deflection.

Are these SJW'S out on the weekend and nights working the soup kitchens? Manning the suicide helpline? Being in big brother/sister programs for kids with disabilities? Do they spend their annual leave going to Africa to dig wells and build shelters?

The answer is 90% no. They either do nothing or go to protests so they can scream and hurl abuse

And that tells the real story.

The Alt-right is worse, but at least they dont try to paint themselves as something they arent. but genre entertainment is becoming infested with mindless SJW types and it's just annoying.

I miss the days when liking a movie just depended on if it was entertaining or not, not, but those days are sadly gone for the most part.

This'll be shot down as an angry rant or dismissed with deflecting humor because it's too close to home but it is what it is.

Bullshit posts is not a response

Literally the definition of a response.

And a bunch of fanboys are not ‘mass media.’ The response of the traditional mass media to CM (a la, the media around in the 80’s), has been positive.

Hence, ‘without the internet, the man-children would never have been noticed in the first place.’ Let alone remembered in 30 years.

Hell. Even with the internet, they’re probably not going to be remembered in 30 years. Most people don’t even know they exist now.

Lambert being panicked while Ripley was not is a long-lived character contrast with female and male characters:

1. I love how you think that claiming Alien having a cliched ‘hysterical woman’ (The sort that would usually have had a big strong man shut her up with a slap, and is the only character in Alien itself to be literally raped to death as a ‘consequence’ of her ‘weakness,’) is somehow a point in favour of Alien’s ‘better’ depiction of female leads.

If they see the movie that way, small wonder misogynistic fanboys supposably didn’t object to it.

2. Casting a ‘down to earth’ brunette and ‘silly’ blonde, with the latter being murdered as ‘punishment’ for her...existence, is a convention that literally predates film itself. Say hi, Lucy and Mina.

Which funnily enough, means it’s been in genre films from the literal beginning. Because even when when women were expected to be screaming damsels, you couldn’t be too ‘feminine.’ Can’t let your screams for help be too shrill for the dudes delicate ear drums now ladies.

My my. That’s a lot of words just to say ‘both sides...’

Which funnily enough, is in itself form of virtue signalling.

Have we not had these exact same arguments over and over and over for everything at this point. White men mostly but not all complain on twitter or youtube videos, basically saying they aren't sexist and even have a few examples as to why they aren't sexiest. Yet somehow it seems almost any new female lead genre movie gets bashed except for the lucky few that is mostly accepted like "Wonder Woman" were you get mostly universal praise with small moments like the all girl screening as the exception to these few accepted movies but that is usually a small portion of the reaction.

Then the counter argument is to complain about these things but then somehow all complaints with a movie is just more of these man babies. If the complainers use the usual talking points it's clear but if not it's just a conspiracy where anyone who does't like a movie is just lying. The idea that someone might just not like a movie isn't trusted because even though we talk about the man babies as a small minority I think the fear is they represent the majority. Kind of like how we use the "few bad apples" with cops but I think people are kind of thinking the other way often, but nobody says it because to be against cops is almost a sin.

Then the haters call them SJW's or one of the other standard insults. Liberals call them manbabies or some of the other accepted insults. Everyone in the middle tries to take a more moderate approach but nobody wants to stick their neck in to far when you got two sides going at each other or else it looks like you might be pulled into it. I don't know what to do when everything is a political conspiracy. I love conspiracies but I am thinking most of them are overblown takes on people simply having a few shared opinions or even opinions that only look similar if you don't really look to hard in what they are actually saying, as oppose to some kind of "agenda" . All of which is taking place in the same place called "social media" out in the open instead of some private setting where people just talk among themselves.

All of which you can say has nothing to do with "Captain Marvel" but it doesn't matter. Captain Marvel,The Last Jedi,Ghostbusters Doctor Who etc. It doesn't matter. All the arguments are the same so the details of the actual movie don't even matter once it gets started. If people don't want to see a female lead then don't go see the movie. If people hate the manbabies don't click onto their sites or talk to them. If you look at what they are doing you can tell that they measure their success not on whether they stop a movie but how many subscribers and clicks they get. Many of them get add revenue since for some reason ranting about nerd stuff on the internet is now something you can make money off. Which is weird because I was doing it for free for many years and nobody paid me money to hear why Jar Jar sucked.
