The shroom lab is right next to the warp drive room. Reno gets sent there to firewall both areas from the sphere virus. Remember Michael also wanted to go to Engineering, but the shroom lab was locked down due to the energy discharge and she couldn't get through. So, presumably they are in close proximity of each other, which also makes sense since the shroom lab also deals with propulsion.

I suspect if they switched to TOS/DiscoPike uniform colours, they'd find excuses to put everyone in their most flattering colour rather than the "correct" one.

That is why the "Operations" division even exists, they created it because Data looked better in gold than science blue.

I did this two years ago. And yeah, the lens flare was supposed to add some extra Discovery flavour.

The uniforms look surprisingly superior in blue. What could have been.

Not to mention balance the colours. Discovery has very few Command division cast members, going by the colour of their tin foil and the badge logos. Lots of science, lots of engineering. Only really the captain and Saru in gold.

Detmer, Owo and Rhys are in copper, with engineering swirls on their badges.

Can I just butt in and remark that all these people are unrealistically beautiful? You know, get the Mary Sue ball rolling again. ;)

Okay, okay. Butting out before the ritual of the tossing of the foul tomatoes commences.

The copper and gold are hard to distinguish in Discovery Blue ™ lighting but you can tell by the badge logo in close up.

Costume design remains not this show's strong point.

...The one color Trampling On Gene's Vishun!!! is the copper on Rhys. Kirk's gunners all wore gold: the helmsman or the navigator pushing the trigger, the folks down below actually making the guns go pew-pew, even half of Kirk's "tactical people" who accompanied him to Cestus III.

Then again, does this science ship even warrant a proper gunner? It sorta seemed nobody had the skill back when Lorca demanded it; the minions who contractually just helped the silver folks run their experiments had to stretch and bend to meet that demand.

Tilly is one of the best or most promising theoretical engineers on the ship. Mentioned in 1x03, I believe. I would imagine she'd be the perfect person to work in tandem with Stamets on solving problems with the Spore drive.

I'd say Detmer too, the only red-shirted helmsman i recall was Mirror Sulu (although i suppose Mr. Leslie probablytook the helm at least once). Starship drivers in all the other series were command as well.

And that was only because MU Sulu was chief of security as well as helmsman.
