Isn’t that filmed and in one of the cuts already?

I do not know. I hope so. I remember reading Leonard Nimoy talking about it in Allan Asherman's Star Trek Interview book. According to Nimoy, he said he offered the line to director Robert Wise but Wise did not use it. I will have to rewatch TMP. I have not watched it in a while. It would be cool to have it.

Or watched first-run TNG as a teenager.

IIRC, Nimoy tried it during blocking/rehearsal, but I don't think he ever got it into a filmed take.

I think Walter Koenig describes it in Chekov's Enterprise.

It would be nice if they had the audio running when Nimoy tried it. I would love to hear that scene play out. Nimoy says in the Asherman book that when he told it to others, that they laughed, which is what he thought they would do.He knew it was a good line.

I swear I've heard the line before somewhere, myself. Don't have a clue where though.

I need to make a correction. I found the quote in David Gerrold's book The World of Star Trek. The quote goes like this. Spock says "If Dr. McCoy is going to remain aboard, my presence here is essential" (p,170).Gerrold goes on and writes that "Even though it was shot both ways the original line was kept." (p. 170). So apparently the scene did happen. I am hopeful that it has been released on one of the many releases of The Motion Picture. Now I must find it.

Chief DiFalco: "Should I fake my orgasms?"

(Hint? Check the cast list on IMDb.)

Probably read it in "Chekov's Enterprise" by Walter Koenig.

There are still only three versions of the film: the theatrical, the "Special Longer Version", and the Director's Edition.

The line is not in any of those.

There have also been a airline version (edited down theatrical), a Super 8 version (edited down theatrical), and one copy (reels removed from circulation at Wise's request) that was a battered, weird hybrid of the theatrical and SLV (ie. omitting the unfinished matte painting Kirk airlock sequence).

Lots of extra and deleted scenes have also been incorporated into numerous fan edits.

I know it's bonkers but you might be able to fit in a background line between DiFalco and Sulu when Kirk returns to the bridge at the end. Very Orville though .

I'd love to know what rough out-takes from the movie still exist .

Just to add that, while not immediately apparent, it may seem that both events occur in a matter of minutes but I think at least a day has probably passed between both, I mean, I take that TMP jumps a lot in time while only communicating that fact, most of the time, through the changes in wardrobe. The alternative is that, at that point in his life, Kirk was fond of switching outfits 3 times a day ;)

But then again I would never think of doing that to TMP, just... no. A Saavik deepfake, on the other hand....

Perhaps in a Nimoy interview, I've seen it in this video, a bit after 10:30 :

I realize I'm helping this damned endeavor... dear god!

Yeah it's not that realistic to suggest that Kirk can get the job, locate Bones, organise his redraft, and get him to the ship in a really short space of time but such accidents are rare. Even a day is too soon to be so flippant.

Good spot! Much like the Rand line from World Enough and Time, the delivery is off in the clip but not impossible to import.

Don't worry though. The tech is nowhere near ready even to make a decent attempt. Less ambitious efforts have worked really well. The fan edit of Revenge of the Sith that edits out Darth Vader, Padme's naming of the twins, and her death works really well. Her presence on Alderaan is established by splicing in a scene from the Other Boleyn Girl. Genius and the only version I can cope with now.

Splice in Edith Bunker's face onto Spock in every single scene, and use dialogue from Fran Drescher.

    Because that would be awesome.

Ughhh... that is a video from someone drunk with power, he went too far.

Aptly, it was the same problem that plagued the Star Wars prequels.

Yeah it's crazy! But I'm astonished it's possible.
