I don't think it did. I thought "Twin Suns" was outstanding.

Oh yeah, you mean Obi Wan vs Maul, right?
I felt that way too initially... really perhaps Maul and Obi Wan having their own thing(s) might be better anyway. I have come to appreciate how Rebels tied that one up... although we were initially hoping to see the encounter on the big screen.

When I saw the thread title, it read to me in Taun We's voice:
"We have the Obi Wan limited series ready, with a million more (Star Wars shows) well on the way."

One of the best scenes in the Saga.

Short and the to the point. Masters either win in the first seconds, or it an extended draw until someone gains an advantage (the "High Ground", for example)

Yeah, it's not like you could have based a whole show around the concept of "Darth Maul hunting Obi-Wan on Tattooine." Plus, since the *vast* majority of Maul's story has played out in the animated shows, it'd be weird for a live action project to bring it to a close. Not least because most of the audience probably wouldn't have seen said shows and would have no clue whatwas going on.

An Obi-Wan show pretty much has to be a western/jidaigeki type of format. Think 'Yojimbo' meets 'The Searchers' with a bunch of weird, trippy force visions and the odd Liam Neeson flashback. He can't leave the planet, he can't get involved in any larger conflicts and is constantly at odds with his instincts to help the impoverished and oppressed people of the desert planet and his need to remain unnoticed and of no interest to anyone.

    He could leave the planet.

Needed a little more on the Tuskens. Actually show us what happens instead of following AOTC's lead.

The Obi-Wan's journal flashback issues of the ongoing Star Wars series have done a great job with this. I haven't read Kenobi, but I've gotten the impression it did the same thing.

Actually, I was hoping that was going to happen as I was watching the episode the first time. On film and TV, they're still just NPCs, the lot of them.

I highly recommend it. Easily one of my favourite Star Wars novels ever.
For context though: it covers only a relatively short span of time; basically the first few months of his stay. So it's not like it's a comprehensive account or anything. But yes, it did set a tone that the later comics seemed to take their ques from.

Side note: thanks to 'From a Certain Point of View', certain elements of the story at least are now canon. John Jackson Miller's contribution featured a character he'd created for the 'Kenobi' novel reflecting on some of the events depicted therein...in pretty vague terms though, so it's more of a nod than anything.

It's a shame they killed Satine, it would have been interesting to see what could have happened with her and Obi-Wan if she had shown up on Tattooine after Revenge of the Sith.

What do y'all suppose is the reason Disney doesn't seem to want to do an Obi-wan standalone movie?

The fan base is clearly enthusiastic about it.
Ewan M. has said he'd love to reprise the role, and he's exactly the right age.
As SW films go, it would generate tremendous buzz and possibly have the best box office numbers of any SW offering in recent memory.

Yet Disney seems to not want to go there. Why?

I ask myself that same question every time this comes up. It really does seem like one of the most obvious choices for a "Star Wars Story" movie.

Maybe they're not particularly confident about box office these days?

Well if they are going to announce anything, it will be at Celebration. And the main hype there will be Episode IX (And its title). But also "what's next" since there is no known scheduled film after Episode IX, while there have been a film every year since TFA came out.

We do still have Rian Johnson, and the Game of Thrones guys' movies after EpIX. I'm curious if we might finally get to learn a bit more about them at this year's Celebration.

If I were Disney I would be playing things very close to the vest.
Han Solo is among the most popular Star Wars characters and yet Solo was an "unasked for film" that did poorly at the box office because of Disney's mishandling of marketing and timing.

I can't imagine them releasing more until after they get a sense of Episode IX reception.

Is "Marketing and Timing" the new name for The Last Jedi?

For me, what it really comes down to is that that episode wasn't part of Obi Wan's story, it was Maul's. Obi-Wan moved past Maul years ago and was willing to lead him around the desert in circles for the rest of his natural life until he forced a confrontation. Indeed, up until he threatened Luke, he was still willing to let him go on his way. For Maul, it's a final titanic clash. For Obi-Wan, it just a footnote at best. A needless chore at worst.

So no, I don't think this is something that should have been saved for a live action project that might not happen, because the lion's share of Maul's story has been told in animation and that's the logical place for it to have ended.
