Obi Wan series on the way?

The Mandalorian had a distinct lack of old familiar characters showing up, and it worked out great, but I wouldn't mind if they went in the opposite direction for this one, because chances are running out as all the Prequel Trilogy actors get older. Won't get many better chances than his.

They did bring Jar Jar back for The Clone Wars, so they haven't been completely against using him since the prequels ended. I do find it a bit hard to believe they'll actually bring him back for the Obi-Wan series though, that just strikes as the kind of rumors that always pop up at this point in a show's production, and end up not being true.

I hope to god Grace Randolph is full of shit.

Good, I was really looking forward to this, and it looks like the majority of the fandom is too.
People really need to learn to double check the sources they are using for these kinds of stories.

Grace Randolph said she triple checked.

I don't know, though... As much as I personally dislike Grace Randolph (I find her annoying at best, and obnoxious at worst), she's occasionally been right about this type of stuff.

The thing is even if there's truth behind this, "behind the scenes drama" could be literally anything from "Disney are trying to lowball McGregor's fee and his reps are having none of it" to "some exec wants it to be a musical comedy with Nick Cage playing a giant spider fighting a space polar bear in the desert" and everything else in-between.
Stories like this before the cameras have even rolled are rarely worth paying attention to. Wake me when the trailer drops.

BTW, does anyone know what Randolph's industry insider credentials even are? So far as I can tell she mostly just reacts to trailers on youtube, while inordinately fixated on the female performer's hairstyles.

Disney has more money than god at this point, so I doubt they'd be lowballing his pay, but yeah, it could mean anything. Ewan said he was in talks with them for years, maybe he negotiated a level of control over the script that isn't being honored to full extent. Maybe Disney mandated rewrites that deviate from what he initially agreed to. Could be that him and some of the crew didn't click. Who knows. We could speculate like this forever, but it doesn't amount to anything, really.

Beats me. I know her only as a social media blue ckeckmark asshole who wrote some comic books way back when and trolls people on message boards like BoxofficeTheory.com. Her YouTube channel doesn't have enough subscribers to qualify as "relevant" either.

I'm pretty sure they're not even rolling yet, unless you count hair & make-up tests, so pretty much the only drama at this point can be either contract or script related...unless it's *really* petty crap like trailer size and free goodies from Disney land or some bollocks, but Ewan doesn't seem like the petty type.
So I'm inclined to believe that if it's anything at all (and I mean it's a BIG "if") it'll be either money or the script, and since this is supposedly converting what would have been a movie to a show then the script, or at least the basic premise should have been something Ewan would already have been looped in on way back when....well that leaves money.

You're right of course that Disney can pretty much meet anyone's price, but that doesn't mean that always want to *pay* it if they don't have to. They are in it for the profit after all and if he's wanting extra points, or residuals on the merch using his likeness (where the REAL money is) instead of a flat fee then they might be digging their heels in.

You don't bring an actor out to make a splashy convention appearance in front of thousands of people which is then available all over the world if you're still negotiating deal points!

Stumbled upon recent comic work where Obi-Wan faces down a gigantic Wookie bounty hunter. I personally would love for him to be an antagonist in the series as well as potential character to show up in the Mandalorian.

I really hope this is good. Sucks that Rebels ruined anything they could do with Maul. I suppose they could still do A’Sharard Hett. That would be neat.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I personally think Rebels did the only interesting thing worth doing between Maul and Kenobi. It's one of the most beautiful scenes that show ever put together (which is saying something, Rebels was fantastic). And it is a flawless ending to the rivalry begun in TPM, which explores both characters' growth or lack thereof in the interim and then dispenses long overdue justice for Qui-Gon Jinn. It is also an absolute crowning moment of badass for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and quite possibly his strongest moment in any Star Wars medium since he lowered his guard against Vader way back in ANH.

You are not the only one. It is one the most epic scenes in Star Wars period. It establishes both characters in a brief and beautiful way, while being incredibly iconic in terms of styling, framing and combat. There is nothing more epic that could have been done, in my opinion.
