Recently I saw a picture on the net of two aliens in Discovery that could be Talosians! Trouble is the resemblance isn't as good as it should be! They seem to have the big throbbing bulbous heads and veins but also a ridge which seperates their hemispheres as well! Sadly I can't remember exactly where I saw it but does anyone know anything more about it? I mean we know they're coming back so... JB
I have no idea what you are talking about. was it that picture? or that picture? or this one? or that? depending on the picture in question, my only answer I could give is: Those are aliens from the planet Talos IV with extremely powerful mind powers that look, act and sound exactly like Talosians and were called so in the episode. So I guess, they might be Romulans.
Not only are they Talosians (and Vina!), but the episode opened with "Previously on Star Trek..." using footage from "The Cage". So they're showing the original versions of everything side by side with the new reimagined ones.
yup. and the beauty is on youtube already [Link removed by Moderator - this is copyrighted material from a recent release, too close for comfort sorry]
I missed the Magistrate's squeaky, prissy voice. Yeah, sure, Malachi Throne isn't playing a dual role in this one so they didn't have to disguise his performance but, still.
Well I think I prefer the original versions to be honest and Vina was much sexier in the Susan Oliver mold! I haven't seen the episode yet so cannot comment on it but any scenes from TOS are very welcome! JB
Out of curiosity, has a "workprint version" of "The Cage" audio ever been released that has the lead Talosian's voice unaltered throughout? I've only ever heard it on the lines that weren't used in The Menagerie on the old color/B&W version of "The Cage." Heck, since the HD remaster, even those lines were altered to match on the full-color version.
It was this picture and of course they're not Romulans! The original Talosians didn't have that ridge along their nose coming from their forehead though either! JB
Exactly. They are masters of illusions. They can make themselves look however they want. They might be little glowing orbs sitting on a shelf somewhere.
Talosians are supposed to be crab people. They just took the form of brainy little guys because Vina found it intimidating. After downloading the Enterprise data files, they changed up their look and decided to bulk up, streamline the excess brain and add a ridge to match other aliens humanity had run across. They reverted back to their 2254 form when abducting Pike again so he isn't too put off by their appearance.
Forehead ridges are a universal design shorthand for "Romulan". I thought everybody knew that by now?
