Captain Marvel (2019)

yep, it sounds mixed. reason the movie having an 83% should not be the case. 50% feel more accurate for mixed. but the movie is getting a pass because of gender politics and because disney has influence.

remember this is what is going on with the reviews. this is not my personal reviews about the movie. if this was not an mcu movie trust me when i say the score will be rotten right now. since most movies with mixed reactions dont still get a pass
Do you know what mixed means?

83% is by definition mixed.
If that was all glowing perfect scores it would be 100%.

One review at 90%, a very good score, and one review at 75%, a little less good, will give you an a average score of 83%, a still good score.

Mixed simply means that opinions and scores are not all the same.

If they all were the same, they would be the exact opposite.

Edit: if you had a score of 100% and a score of 0%, it would get you a „mixed“ score of 50%, true.
But in the real world of statistics , those are extreme outliers, and can be disregarded to get a better picture of the true average.

Maybe you want to look for the median score instead?

Whose given it a pass? A pass would mean the critics would be fawning all over it. Maybe some clickbait sites but you should really avoid the clickbait stuff. You will find just as many people trashing it and acting like it's the worst thing ever. On YOutube I seem to notice video after video about how this movie is going to bring down the MCU.

Well that seems like a stretch. Even if Captain Marvel isn't a good enough character to kind of supplant Iron Man and Captain America I am sure they will find something else that works. The NBA didn't fold just because Micheal Jordan retired in 1998. Something will become the next big deal. My money is on the X-Men or when they start finding ways to get Deadpool involved in stuff or maybe something else.

the thread I made, about the ethics of film criticism and this movie. I posted about 18 reviews on rt that all sounded mixed to rotten but they got a fresh rt score.

I can bet a billion dollars if this was a DC or fox movie, this wont happen.

Well using scores seems to be a bad way to judge a opinion to be honest. I have no idea what makes a movie "fresh" or "rotten" or how one can tell a movie's quality by a number. I don't myself use Rotten Tomatoes. I much prefer to listen to people talk about it and sort of describe their feelings more than anything like a score or a rating. I mean "Siskel and Ebert" back in the day had the thumbs up and thumbs down but what made them interesting was them simply talking about the movies with each other.

no, not all. read the reviews of let me say Logan, TDK, Spiderman 2, Return of the King.

the reactions are not the same as Captain marvel
You are wrong, none of those films were unanimous in reviews. Moreover, that has no bearing on any viewers opinion whether they find a movie good or bad. Your repeating the same erroneous statement show you are not able to formulate a valid thought. Since you haven't seen the film, your thoughts on the matter are not only invalid, they are laughable.

Well one of the reasons they aren't the same, beyond the movies quality and the reviewers views on that is they are all literally different movies. Maybe one reviewer simply loves Spiderman and doesn't much care for the Fantasy genre so that impacts their scores. We kind of forget that these people also have preferences they like beyond just social issue stuff.
Some people hate comic book movies. Just ask Bill Maher about that. So maybe if he is giving a review on a comic book movie one should maybe consider that his personal tastes simply might influence him. Yet like I said I don't think people are cliches so maybe he would still end up liking a few despite his views on the genre. I could see him liking "Deadpool" for example. Still it doesn't mean his aversion to comics might not hinder him in other comic book movie reviews because he will be using different standards than other critics and also us the fans and casual fans.

Please tell me you are ironic but you forgot the smiley.

The films that had artificial boosters?

If it weren't for being Hugh Jackman's last time as Logan, Logan itself would've been in the 60s at best. It's a generic Western.

And you know this because you’ve seen it? Oh wait, you’ve already said you aren’t going to, so you’re basing this on what? YouTube reviews?
Yep. Ones I trust and agree with after 20 films in. That's fair.

Maybe you could find something productive to do with your time as opposed to tearing things down you don’t like.

Yeah I'm not gonna take the advice of some guy on a random Star Trek message board about what I should be doing. Good try through. Those posting here don't have the luxury about grandstanding about what's productive use of their time, lol.

Oh?
Have memory issues, perhaps?

And you still are having reading challenges here. I said I wasn't critiquing the content of the film, but rather what is going on involving it's lead and the marketing.

The film will most likely be good, middle of the road good. Feige doing quality control means it can't be outright bad by any measurable standard (cinemascore, RT, BO). His track record is too good.

You've done nothing but generalize and continue to misquote and misinterpret in spite of repeated confirmation that none of your claims bear any scrutiny.
Truly, you are not convincing at anything but showing your poor reasoning in the matter at hand.

I'll differ to your expertise on misquoting, generalizing and misinterpreting.

You know, when I spend the majority of my time working, getting my masters degree in health care administration (and maintaining a 4.0, BTW), getting my home ready for a baby my wife and I are having in a few months, am involved in my church, volunteer and spend a little time on TrekBBS, yeah, you’re right. I’m a terrible person who has no room to suggest other things are more important than wishing for the downfall of Star Wars. Silly me.

Lol im laughing out loud that you had to share all that silly nonsense. Didnt expect you to get so triggered about a line of thought that you started.

You're a more regular poster on this board than I, and if you think this is a productive use of your time..so be it. Youre definitely not in a position to tell me what I should be doing. Seems like youre just upset by my comments on this topic.

It sounds like you don’t know what the Rotten Tomatoes score is. It doesn’t register the content of a review. It’s the average of yes, see it or no, don’t.

It doesn’t register a mixed positive review from a super positive one.

If one reviewer loved it and one reviewer hated it, the score is 50%, which doesn’t mean it’s an ok film.

83% means most are recommending seeing it. That’s it.

Considering that I'm fairly certain your post is designed trigger a response, I'm just going to say: Have a nice day, Kane.
