Captain Marvel (2019)

Yeah, for a second I thought maybe they had cameos. But then I realized it was the wrong millennium! And that they were showing up to support the MCU & CM, as you say. Also, to plug AoS S6 a little ('s alright!). :techman:
With these kind of franchises you tend to see people from other shows or movies pop up at events, even if they aren't in that production.
I'm pretty sure there were people from the other shows at premieres and events for the Kelvin movies and Discovery.

Looks like Captain Marvel will be the weakest of the Phase Three entries. The metacritic and RT avg scores are mediocre this early in the game.

DC wins the victory here. Wonder Woman will likely be the better received female superhero film and far more culturally impactful. WW was a four quadrant film and the way they handled a female superhero lead there really resonated with everyone, including young girls. They managed to make her likeable, which is a huge accomplishment.

Reading the breakdowns of this film, Captain Marvel doesn't sound like a film that has the potential to have legs on par with Wonder Woman.

It doesn't sound like Brie Larson was very engaging either. Jeremy Jahns, Screenjunkies, JTE and more all lukewarm to ambivalent on her choices with this. She could be Marvel Studio's first miscast. After 20 films, it was inevitable.

Hopefully next time they take some cues from Patty Jenkins and how she made WW work.

You need to see Captain Marvel if you want to completely experience Avengers Infinity War II (if you are a moron).

This should mean that Captain Marvel will have "okay" numbers for a lot longer than other movies.

My wife is making me wait till tomorrow to see Captain Marvel.

There will be no spiteful retribution.

A higher score than Infinity War is mediocre?

That movie did all the "SJW" stuff that Captain Marvel was accused of...and that last act, yeesh.

I'm confused I thought we decided Rotten Tomatoes was discredited?? If it's certified 'fresh' do we believe it now?

Seriously if it's a good movie who cares what other people think.

Yep. Middle of the road. Captain Marvel will be the weakest of the Phase 3 when all is said and done.

The early reviews added to RT are from the invited press screenings, often heavier leaning on those that would be generous to the film. The scores will drop. While it's just sitting at an 83% critic consensus now, a lot of those scores are 3/5s and so on.This certainly doesn't look like it will be as praised as Wonder Woman.

it looks like Captain Marvel and her opening weekend will gross 125 million broflake tears domestically and over 300 million broflake tears worldwide.

The MCU is the king of all of these franchises, after so many wins. Let's see how Captain Marvel legs out...

I'll make a bold prediction that it won't have the legs of Wonder Woman, or perhaps even Aquaman.

Certified fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, although I expect that to be review bombed before too long.

It won't get 'review bombed' by critics. If anything, critics tend to be a lot more generous and lenient towards genre films with 'progressive' messaging.

Where it will get 'review bombed' will be the Audience Score. The mouse stepping in and shutting down the 'Want To See' seemed to garner a ...divisive response.

Critics' reviews don't really have any real impact on how these kinds of movies end up doing, just look at the Transformers movie.

Most haven't seen CM yet, and personally I'm not planning to. There isn't accusations against the film per say, but the language of the star outside the context of the film and her association with third-wave feminism, and the messaging in the marketing.

WW seemed to avoid the gender politics when it came to it's marketing and the conduct of it's cast. It avoided this type of divisiveness early on... and when the film launched, 4 quadrant hit that men, women and kids all seemed to enjoy.

You mention the third act, and I agree. I thought Wonder Woman was mediocre, but I can't deny the massive positive response it got from all perspectives. There wasn't much 'SJW' stuff in Wonder Woman. It was essentially a Disney Princess story with action, and the male characters weren't undermined. Pine nearly stole the show and got to be a hero in his own right. It was well-balanced. CM could be too, but I won't be seeing it.

After Aquaman and Venom, it's a completely unpredictable playing field when it comes to Box Office. China's influence is massive now. Will Captain Marvel be a film that does well over there? That could be the game changer. Wonder Woman wasn't too hot over there, but the MCU branding is insanely strong in China.
