20th Anniversary of TrekBBS Avatars

I double-checked. Looks like Christian registered on March 27th, 1999... so March is the 20th Anniversary of TrekBBS. I think, to honor this, for the month of March it would be a neat idea if we had avatars representing the early years of the board, even though technically we didn't have them until the end of 2002. I'd call the first five years the early years, but this is the TrekBBS, so we might as well make the cut-off 2005.

I've been lining up all my old avatars. Peace signs galore. And I'll mix in pictures of myself from 2005 and earlier too. Join in and line up your old avatars for the month too!

Even if you weren't here back then, you can still join in by having avatars of pictures from that time! Let's party like it's 1999!

I've only ever used two avatars - my current one and a tractor beam smiley (which I'd still be using if XenForo allowed animated avatars).

great minds, Garth! I used to have a peace sign, too. Just a simple yellow rotating gif which seems to be no longer online. I'll hunt for it in my old backups in the weekend. I might perhaps have a copy there.

I thought it was perfect. I was a mod for the TOS Forum, so I wanted a '60s-themed avatar to go with it. But it was also a statement I wanted to make with all the ENT/TNZ/MA flame wars going on.

I had an animated avatar of Kor, courtesy of @Spaceman Spiff. I don't know what ever happened to it, since I was away from the BBS for quite some time. It seems like at the time the gif format was proprietary and there was no free software to make animated gifs.

yep, similar idea here: there can't be enough peace in the world. Plus: I've always been a Hippie, both by generation and inclination :D

I can't remember what avatar I had first on here. I know I have it, I have an entire folder of old, retired avatars but that was so many moons ago. I'll have to poke around and see if I can find it.

I've had a bunch of 'em over the years, but I really like looking at Adam's pretty face when I post, so I'm keeping this one for the nonce. Can't for the life of me remember my first one, though.

Joined in 2009, but I'll dig up some of my older stuff.

Here's an avatar I wore over on Nintendo's old forums (from around 2005):

I went blank for a while after avs became an available feature, but this would have been the first one I had:

Somebody on this board made this avatar for me. I wish I could remember who it was. It's totally slipped my mind. But whoever made this glorious AV... I salute them. :techman:

I don’t think I still have any of my early avatars. I cannot even remember what I used before the first versions of this cat. At one stage this cat was without a sombrero or a moving tail. If I remember correctly Trekkiedane made this one many years ago (whenever the board was going through it sombrero fad).

Edited to add - just looked at a very old thread and it looks like the sombrero fad occurred back in 2008.
