Isn't he a Kelvin timeline character?
He was in the Kelvin-verse for about 10 minutes.

I'd like Jeffrey Combs in the cast. But i'd also like Rebecca Romijn as Captain. Can we have both?
Somehow I suspect Number One ends up becoming head of a much quieter secretive Sec.31. Romijn isn't getting enough time on the show right now but if she signed up my suspicion is they have something big lined up. Imagine.. Yeoh and Romijn and Clem Fandango.. same show.

Okay, so he's a movie captain. And while he dies early on, he's still a prime character at that point. Okay, I can see that reasoning. I did like him, so seeing him again would be cool, although I do think it would cause some meta hiccups.

I would not want Saru to be captain--not without adding another new major character. Part of Discovery's charm so far (for me) is that bringing in a new captain each season mixes things up in interesting ways, and if you make Saru captain you're left with less than we've had for two seasons now. It's the cast + the new person that adds real interest for me.

I'd vote for Number One.

Gotta go with Numero Uno. I think Romijn will do her justice to the max and she might not have stayed as Pike's first officer forever more. Because the Cage was discarded as a pilot, there's been nary a mention of Numero Uno, so it completely frees her of any canon restrictions.

I vote Number One so we can build some real story for this legendary character.

Assuming nothing happens to Cornwell (I hope not--I like her) it seems like she would have the biggest say in deciding the next Captain of the Discovery. Seems reasonable to think she would take Pike's input on the three potential candidates he knows best (Number One, Burnham, Saru). Would Pike hold back Number One getting her first command because he doesn't want to lose her? I think not.

Michael Burnham. It's what the series is headed toward.

I have no problem with this for season three if the writers want to go that route. I would like to see Michael rising to the challenge. I know she could.

That said there is something fun about changing Captains and using the Discovery's status as a unique experimental starship to do that. Also I wonder if Michael is destined to not be a Captain due to some time or inter-dimensional accident. That would have nothing to do with her qualifications just a direction the writing might go. I wonder if the writers feel a need for an in story explanation of "if Spock had an adopted sister why did we never hear about her as a sister or known Starfleet officer"? I don't need that (like an explanation of different Klingon foreheads) but they might want it and to give Michael a story that doesn't go the way we think it will (Captain in waiting).

Saru, at least let him be captain for a year

Again I'm fine with this and at some point an alien should be a Captain of a Starship and lead on a Star trek show. I would have liked Captain Rixx from TNG's 'Conspiracy' to be the first but that ship has long since sailed. Saru would be a great choice in the here and now.

Part of Discovery's charm so far (for me) is that bringing in a new captain each season mixes things up in interesting ways, and if you make Saru captain you're left with less than we've had for two seasons now.

I totally agree with this and expressed something similar but you beat me to it. Your excellent observation deserves to be acknowledged and highlighted.

Somehow I suspect Number One ends up becoming head of a much quieter secretive Sec.31. Romijn isn't getting enough time on the show right now but if she signed up my suspicion is they have something big lined up. Imagine.. Yeoh and Romijn and Clem Fandango.. same show.

You are on to something. If there is going to be a Section 31 show with Yeoh the central conflict of it will be what is and/or should be Section 31's role and influence? There is a story to be told about why Section 31 goes darker than it seems to be in Disco's time. Number One in or out of Section 31 could be the one to fight for the right leadership and makeup of it as opposed to more sinister and aggressive characters. Even in that fight maybe Georgiou finds she's capable of a little more selfless behavior than she thinks and Number One would find there is a time and place for some version of Section 31 and even she can't always keep it 100% to the values she had previously held dear.

I didn't think Saru had what it takes to be a captain, but now he can shoot darts from his head I'm all for it.

But I really like the idea of Captain George Kirk and he drags along his son Ensign Jim. They spend a season not getting along blah blah blah ends with Geroge and Jim being closer than ever.

i kind of said this in the general disco chat thread, but...

i’d like to see pike continue being captain and the crew of discovery transfer to the enterprise. this is less a desire to see the enterprise yet again and more just not wanting to lose a character (pike) we’ve become invested in. aside from the fact that the gimmick of “who’s gonna be the next captain?” is already tired. so yeah, i’d rather see the crew follow the current captain back to his ship rather than do this every season.

My other recommendation for Captain, besides Number One, was endorsed by Rufus from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey himself, George Carlin. Who had this to say, "And a special treat from the 23rd century, Miss Ria Paschelle. Miss Paschelle, as you all know, was the inventor of the statiophonic oxygenetic amplifiagraphiphonideliverberator. Kind of hard to imagine the world before we had them, isn't it?"

I've always said we've needed a rock star as Captain. And a female rock star who's also an inventor to boot.

I have an unfounded tinfoil hat speculation that Discovery is going to find themselves pulled into the future for some reason at the end of the season, to say... oh... 2399... give or take. So how about Captain Geordi La Forge?

I'm being a little facetious with this post, but I still can't help myself here but wonder if they're going in this direction, or something close to it. Maybe not Geordi, but something TNG-era-ish to kind of springboard into the Picard show.

Saru. Now that he's not afraid anymore, his new found confidence will help him well. Also, I want Discovery to stand on it's own to the point where in 20 years I'm saying, hey, that Star Trek Discovery show was actually pretty good.

Saru followed eventually by Burnham if Saru returns to lead his people in reconciling with the Ba'ul.

Alternatively, Burnham can be promoted to captain of the future USS Georgiou.
